The woman struck and killed by a vehicle Monday night on Sierra Highway in Canyon Country has been  identified as Patti Rhode, 49, of Valencia.

Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department revealed the woman identity late Tuesday after having spoken to her next of kin.

The fatal accident was reported at 6:19 p.m. on the 17000 block of Sierra Highway near the Backwoods Inn restaurant, Sgt. Brian Allen of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said Monday night.

The woman was struck by a sedan traveling down the street, he said. However, Allen couldn’t confirm which direction the sedan was traveling or if the victim was trying to cross the street at the time of the incident.

Rhode was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the sedan remained at the scene.

“The driver is cooperating with investigators,” Allen said.

Allen said an investigation is underway. Drugs and alcohol don’t appear to be a factor at the moment, he said.

No one else was hurt in the accident.
