The Placerita Junior High School Band was recognized as the top school to participate in the District Junior High Honor Band.

This marks the 26th consecutive year, since 1988, that the school has been recognized as a top school.

The Hart District Honor Band program, now in its 32nd year, is designed to provide a challenging, exciting concert band experience for the many outstanding musicians enrolled in junior and senior high school bands.

The Honor band concert provides an opportunity for the most accomplished instrumental music students in our district to join together under the direction of prominent guest conductors.

Many instrumental students from throughout the district-including students from Arroyo Seco, Sierra Vista, La Mesa, Rio Norte, Rancho Pico, Castaic Middle School and the members of the Placerita Advanced Band competed in the Annual District Honor Band auditions at Placerita Junior High School on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.

The best musicians of the district were selected for positions in the 2014 District Junior High Honor Band. Placerita JHS was again recognized as having the most students (28) participating in this prestigious annual event.

“We are so proud of our Advanced Band members who continue to prove that hard work and dedication are the keys to success. They are determined, focused, and incredibly talented. But most of all, they are passionate musicians,” said Ms. Hayes-Rennels, principal at Placerita.

“Kathryn Spula instills great pride in her students daily. Ms. Spula is an outstanding teacher in every respect. She prepares them musically to achieve their best, and insists that they support each other with a true team attitude.”

The fabulous group of musicians all come together with the entire Junior High Honor Band on Saturday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the William S. Hart auditorium. Tickets are on sale now.

“I am always impressed with the skill level these students achieve at such a young age. Their musical accomplishments and defining one’s goals during the preparation period before the audition are a testament to an optimistic attitude, hard work and commitment to practice,” said Kathryn Spula, director of music at Placerita Junior High. “I look so forward to the Honor Band Concert every year.”
