A little more than 9,000 College of the Canyons students are active users of the college’s relatively new email system, a college official said Wednesday.

According to a report delivered to a joint session of the College of the Canyons Board of Trustees and the college’s Associated Student Government, approximately 9,175 students have used their email accounts in the last 90 days.

By comparison, the college has created a total of 120,428 email accounts since August 2012.

That total includes addresses created for former COC students, according to Jasmine Ruys, the college’s director of admissions, records and online services.

Ruys said the motivation behind the email system is to create a central location for students to receive messages from the college.

Students also have the option of forwarding email from a COC account to another third-party account.

Approximately 2,231 students have set up their accounts to forward in this fashion, Ruys said.
