A woman was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries Sunday afternoon following a traffic crash in the southbound lanes of Highway 14 at Escondido Canyon Road, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

About 3:40 p.m. Sunday, a woman driving a red Toyota Camry southbound on the freeway lost control and hit the center divider, said CHP Officer Aaron Maurer, adding she was taken to the hospital complaining of pain.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were at the crash site at 3:43 p.m., said Supervisor Cheryl Sims.

“It was a traffic collision but not a rollover,” she said.

Initial reports received by firefighters indicated that a white minivan was also involved in the crash but Maurer said the crash involved just the Camry.

The lanes of Highway 14 at Escondido have been the location of several traffic collisions in the past year.

Most notable of those was a multi-vehicle pileup last summer.

On June 26, a 19-car pileup on the southbound Highway 14 near Escondido Canyon Road injured 18 people after a big rig barreled into several cars halted during a traffic stop to remove debris in the roadway, officials said at the time.
