Newhall: Public meeting scheduled for roundabout

The proposed Newhall roundabout will be the topic of discussion Thursday night as Santa Clarita officials host a meeting for those interested in learning more about the plan.

The roundabout, which is viewed as the gateway to Newhall, is planned at the intersection of Main Street meets Newhall Avenue near the entrance to William S. Hart Park.

As proposed, the roundabout would replace the stoplights at the intersection of Fifth Street, Main Street and Newhall Avenue.

City officials have previously told The Signal that eliminating the signals in favor of a roundabout would increase the flow of traffic, lower vehicle emissions and reduce accidents in the area.

The proposed roundabout would feature a large center island that would force vehicles to slow down and turn slightly to the right to enter.

The meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hart Hall, 24151 Newhall Ave. inside Hart Park.

Don't be fooled. Santa Clarita officials will pretend they are listening to you at the meeting. Then they will go back and vote yes on this enormous waste of money.

"Gateway to Newhall"? Is that mixed metaphor or what? How does one close the gate? Isn't it more like the "Runway to Awesometown" or "Shortcut to Valencia"?

My over-riding concern for all projects in that sector: will it bring back the Hardware Store?

The light bringing in traffic to Main Street is Green most of the time. The Green arrow for those making the left turn onto Newhall Av. is also green most of the time. The only ones benefiting from the round-about will be those that turn right onto Railroad Ave to bypass the wait at the train tracks. They can then turn left onto 5th st & go straight into the roundabout. I go through that intersection twice a day, a minimum of 5 days a week. There is no traffic at 4:45am, and only medium traffic at 3:30-4pm. The only backup is at the light at the train tracks. They should use the round-about money to improve the commuter lots, or maybe fix the traffic at Market & Railroad Ave.

They'll "listen" to residents and their concerns, just like they did with the Newhall library.

When is the next election? It's time to clean house.

The people running the city need to sent a message!
Previous stupid decisions such as, back in parking in newhall, single traffic lane on decoro, etc were not adequately dealt with by the people.
Now we have 100 Million in newhall, roundabouts, Million Dollar fences with tv billboards, and 50 Millon Dollar ballroms for grandmothers to waltz around.

The roundabout is stupid and unnecessary expense.
All traffic is on Newhall Avenue, NO TRAFFIC IS ON MAIN STREET.
I repeat.
All traffic is on Newhall Avenue, NO TRAFFIC IS ON MAIN STREET.

The soldiers at city hall are lead by their generals. Two generals are no more, another is leaving. The last two will not be around after the next election.
Once the generals are gone, the soldiers will be lost for stupid ideas.

Since living here in SCV ive seen a lot of nonsense spending on infrastructure. Sometimes simple is better, or if it aint broke dont try to fix it.The boneheads that run this city are off in la la land. I will not vote for these people again. Not that I did in the fist place. As an engineer
who has a common sense approach to design I assure you that this roundabout
will not work....

I will let you know when I think of one.
