A young man is dead today from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s officials said.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., deputies were called to a house on De Wolfe Road in Newhall on reports of a man who apparently shot himself with a shotgun, said Lt. Tom Bryski.

More than half a dozen sheriff’s cruisers and at least one Los Angeles County Fire Department truck converged on a one-story house on the east side of the De Wolfe Road cul-de-sac.

A deputy said the body of a man was found outdoors between the side of the house and a fence.

Investigators with the Homicide Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office were dispatched to the house, Bryski said around 2 p.m.

“The (deceased) is a male in his 20s,” he added. His identity was not released.

So sad folks feel the need to end it all. Prayers go out to the family.

cms96, you're not funny.

His demographic (young people) has 25% unemployment.

Despite the massacres in Aurora and Sandy Hook, there is still virtually no emergency mental health services for anyone.

When you game the system against so many people, what do you expect them to do?

How cruel you are to make light of someone's need to end it all, cms96.

This 24-year-old was a friend of mine, and a friend of many, many people who loved, respected and appreciated him.

He had a job -- one which he enjoyed, one where his co-workers were so fortunate to get to share work-time with him.

I hope those of us who knew him will never forget him, as he was truly worth knowing.

So sad... Just starting life... Chances are that we'll never know what prompted this - but I just hope that he was not bullied.

May all the people that have departed us, Rest in Peace...

I worked with him...and it hit me and all of my co-workers very hard when we heard the news...He will be missed everyday and NEVER forgotten! I loved working with him; he was always smiling and never complained about the people who came to our work place. His death will be felt by many!

@Krinda- I'm so sorry for your loss...we did enjoy working with him and he was part of our little family!

I'm SOOO glad to see that cms96 comment was removed. That hurt to read earlier and I just wanted to thank the Signal for taking it off.

RIP my dear friend...you will be missed!
