County and city officials gathered at Hart Park in Newhall Monday to dedicate the $1 million fence erected around the park.

Workers spent nearly six months replacing its old chain-link fence with one made of stucco pilasters and wrought-iron fencing.

Accompanying the new fence is additional landscaping as part of an ongoing effort to beautify the front entrance to the park, which was donated to the county by silent film star William S. Hart.

Along with the fence, the park has added weather-proof poster board displays and an electric marquee to better advertise events in the area, said Norm Phillips, superintendent of the park.

When a fence costs $1 million, I know I chose the wrong career.

Or the wrong Politian!

Only S.C.V. would get sucked into a WORTHLESS billboard. Wow its as useful as the one by C.O.C.
Another reason why California is broke. How long before someone tags it?

Gotta love it. They had a dedication ceremony for a fence. And the hideous electronic billboard is a huge waste of money and something they should not be bragging about.

A million dollars for a fence just across the street from a food pantry where 100s each week come for food donations to feed their children.

The county supervisors and city officials that allowed this to be built should pay the million out of their own pockets! Shame on them.

That money should have been used to help those in the homeless shelter and the working poor in our community who need safe housing, jobs and food.

while I find the $1 million dollar fence pricetag to be beyond shocking and certainly suspect, I do NOT think that One million dollars of taxpayer money should go to the homeless shelter SCVFORALL. That place should be funded primarily by churches and private donors, not taxpayers.

The status of SCV is good according to the city council. Hard to believe this desert town is thriving more than Beverly hills is at the moment....
