Zeeg heil, y'all!

sreilly11: Posted: March 5, 2013 12:46 p.m.

My thoughts exactly!

DMeyer: Posted: March 5, 2013 1:28 p.m.

Is Bob Kellar behind this?

stevieg: Posted: March 5, 2013 1:30 p.m.

Finally some appreciation is being displayed for this great country rather than tearing it apart.

philellis: Posted: March 5, 2013 4:34 p.m.

I had thought it was a Tommie Smith/John Carlos salute

lovelife: Posted: March 5, 2013 4:35 p.m.

Anybody else disturbed over this ???

While American families send their children to school, a teacher denies them of their Constitutional Rights while demanding they pledge allegiance to a foreign country!

@lovelife: I believe a salute from the forehead (Military style) or a hand across the heart would have made me much more happier! Poor kids, don't have a clue of what this all looks like :( Shame on the adults for not thinking this picture through.

At a recent high school basketball game, the home teams principal seized students American flags and removed those students from the student seating/section. When they asked what rules they had violated the response from the schools principal was that the Americana flag was racist. When my kid came home and told me about what happened we discussed why the principal might say that.

I took the opportunity to talk about all of our family members that served in the military, especially my great uncle who died at age 19 while storming up a hill, on the island of Iwo Jima, making just one of several attempts to place theAmerican Flag. He never knew that thrill, since he died before he made it to the top. I never had the opportunity to know my Great Uncle but Iam extremely proud to know that we are part of the same family. Personally I really don't know what's wrong with celebrating love for America.

Hey, ricketzz, you know darn well that the children are not raising their hands in a Nazi salute, but if you're going to make such references, you should at least learn how to SPELL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_salute).

The kids are honoring this great nation, one in which you are lucky to live...and to express yourself publicly, no matter how misguided the remarks.

Patriotism is alive and well at Pico Canyon Elementary School. I'm thankful to those teachers for instilling in first graders the notion of individual liberty and thankfulness for the rights and freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution. They deserve our support and admiration.

@sreilly - (Military style) or a hand across the heart would have made me much more happier!

Me too, but I wasn't the least bit offended. I related that picture as children cheering on the USA like "Hip Hip Horray" USA !!!

@ohhyaa

Do you know the principals name, or what school they were from? Did you get a chance yet to challenge them on their actions at the basketball game? I would like to find out more from that principal directly and then discuss it further with the superintendent.

lovelife: Glad you saw and felt what you did.......unfortunately the first look sent me down a dark path.

ohhyaa: Posted: March 5, 2013 7:20 p.m.

@DMeyer. I know the principal's name and the school. It was Valencia. I was forbidden by my kid to send an email. I even suggested something anonymous, but kid's fear retaliation. My son has been very honest and respectful his entire life, which is not very common these days. I asked my kid a bunch of questions why the spirit section was being penalized for having the theme/prop of American Flag for that game and he wasn't aware of any. I know there are two sides of every story, but my kid told me there have been issues with kids wearing to much red, white and blue at VHS and they were being questioned about their motivations. I'm pretty angry about this, but out of respect for my child, so that he won't be singled out, I'm not filing a complaint. So, if I had to take a wild guess why this is an issue at this school I would say that it is probably seen as insensitive to other nationalities or cultures.

lovelife: Posted: March 5, 2013 7:22 p.m.

It's amazing how people see things differently. One can look at something and see a completely different "picture" than someone else.

When I saw the red, white and blue on their T-shirts, there weren't any negatives going on in my mind... After just reading that article about the teacher who is "brain-washing" the children while coercing them towards their allegiance towards Mexico, I was simply happy to see children cheering in support of the USA.

DMeyer: Posted: March 5, 2013 9:19 p.m.

@ohhyaa

I agree with your decision to respect your sons wishes. It does make my blood boil a bit though, the world is going insane with all of this PC crap. It's a good thing to be respectful and sensitive to other races and nationalities, but being patriotic is also a good thing. We can do both at the same time.

sreilly11: Posted: March 5, 2013 11:24 p.m.

and lovelife that is why I say you wear the "White Hat"! Bravo to you for staying positive about this story. Unfortunately......my positive disposition went out the door last election......seems to be effecting more than I care to admit. Tomorrow is a new day........

So kids if your parents read you this story......this old lady wants you to know my comments were more out of frustration and not about you and your patriot spirit!!!!

The clenched fist is a symbol of militant activism. Working a bunch of little kids into a mob of clenched fist brandishing militants is indoctrination at best. If this country is any good it doesn't have to train babies to carry on the proud traditions we have; they will want to on their own.

We were born in rebellion, not conformity. The "Nazi" salute was stolen from the Romans, btw. I never follow links from LTEs.

Where did I see a bunch of fists in the air? Oh, it was all over the Venezuela articles yesterday. Also popularized by Che and other prominent Marxists.

Yes, a military salute or hands over the heart would be more appropriate. It's how we do things here.

ohhyaa: Posted: March 6, 2013 4:43 p.m.

Propaganda ploy; Circulate pictures of 1st graders with clenched fists wearing red, white and blue into Pakastan, Somalia and Iran with the caption "straighten out or this is what your gonna get" or "America, the next generation".

On a serious note, what a darling group of kids. They look like they had fun cheering and singing a song.
