The murder case against two alleged Sand Canyon street racers was delayed a week, a court clerk said Monday.

Colt Sean Doherty, 19, and Thomas Joseph Vensko, 20, both of Canyon Country, appeared in San Fernando Superior Court on Monday on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of Dakota DeMott, 19, also of Canyon Country, a court clerk confirmed.

But their preliminary hearing was re-scheduled to begin next week, he said.

If convicted, the men face a maximum state prison sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Another delay? Come on this is just the preliminary hearing. Get on with it already. This is not the trial so stop with all the delays and lawyer tricks.

DMeyer: This is our wonderful court system at its best. I have been to court where prelims are still being put off over a year later. The victim gets victimized twice by having to show up to court so many times. Eventually they don't show and the case gets dismissed.

It really is a shame, supposedly our system of justice is the best in the world. How scary is that!

Keene gets 10 years......read about his 11 prior arrests for drunk driving. The drunk the left the lady laying in the road on Old Orchard gets....what, he's going to get a slap on the wrists......but these boys could spend the rest of the lives behind bars.......don't get me wrong, I am not in any way defending these boys.....just appears to me that the Good Old Drunks are getting a free ride.

sreilly11: You are so right. And the whole situation with the drunk who ran Dee down on Orchard Village smells about as rotten as it gets. I still can't figure out who this guy knows and why he was not even charged with vehicular manslaughter. He was charged with leaving the scene of a crime.. they just ignored the fact that he was drunk and put this woman through his windshield and left her to die in the street. Justice indeed.....

and you watch Bdeezine, the killer of Dee will stick again! Keene and Dee's killer have been alcoholics way to long and if they haven't sought treatment in a 12 step program by now, they never will. I'm sure there are lots of enablers connected to these people (the law included) that keep supporting their behavior by accepting their sad stories and excuses. What they really need is tough love.
