Wind will die down but temps to rise

Winds are expected to ease off in the Santa Clarita Valley today following a day of high winds that caused some damage.

Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s officials reported no major problems such as trees down on Wednesday, but branches littered some roads.

Gusty winds knocked down a residential fence in Castaic and toppled a mailbox tree in the North Park area of Valencia, residents reported.

A National Weather Service wind advisory was set to expire by this morning, a forecaster said.

A gradual warming trend was forecast through the rest of the week, with sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the 60s.

The storm that hit the Santa Clarita Valley on Tuesday afternoon saw the closure of Interstate 5 through the Grapevine overnight.

So many trucks were diverted at Castaic that extra California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to Castaic Road on Wednesday morning on reports of residents unable to back out of their driveways due to trucks parked on the street.

The early morning hours Wednesday saw several traffic collisions.

At 7:30 a.m., a green Ford truck overturned in the southbound lanes of Highway 14 near Interstate 5.

CHP officers responded to reports that the truck flipped over several times before landing in the curb side lane and blocking traffic.

An hour earlier, a tractor trailer got stuck in snow on Highway 138 just east of Interstate 5, CHP officers said.

Jim, we do not have curbs on freeways in this country. We call them by numbers: 1 left hand lane; 2 one lane further right. The far right can be called the slow lane. More right than that and you are on the shoulder.

What does this mean? Why were the tow truck drivers unable to re? Is "re"ing legal when you are driving?
