Valencia woman unharmed after robbery attempt

A Valencia woman is safe and unharmed after she snubbed two would-be robbers who held her at gunpoint, a local sheriff’s spokesman said.

About 4:30 p.m., two men - one of them armed with a handgun - tried to mug a woman at gunpoint near the intersection of Arroyo Park Drive and Bellis Drive, said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Two males, black, about 20, displayed a handgun and demanded money and jewelry from a woman,” he said.
“She said ‘no.’”

Instead, the woman ran to a nearby house and the would-be muggers ran away.

“The woman went to a nearby house and called 911,” Bryski said.

No shots were fired and the woman was not hurt, he said.

Deputies immediately began scouring the neighborhood west of McBean Parkway including Summit Park, he said.
The gun was described as a small silver-colored weapon.

“It was an attempted robbery,” Bryski said. “She didn’t give them anything,” he said. “We’re still scouring the area.”

Pretty significant crime here. I assume the intended victim was walking. We're the two robbers in a car? Walking? Based on their general appearance are they suspected to be out of the area? Too bad this happened in Valencia. We pack heat up here in Saugus.

ohhyaa: Posted: February 18, 2013 9:15 p.m.

Too bad the gun wasn't pink with sparkles. It probably would have shot out jam or jelly. Hopefully we will get a follow-up on the description of the two perps. I'll be looking for them. I'm really glad the woman was okay. She did the right thing. I'm pretty crazy and PMS right now. They better not try to rob me on my next walk around the block.

"Deputies are searching for two suspects in an attempted robbery of a pedestrian in Valencia.
According to the sheriff’s crime broadcast, the female victim was near the intersection of Arroyo Park Drive and Bellis Court at about 4:40 p.m. when she was approached by a man identified only as a black male in his 20s, approximately 5-foot-8, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The man reportedly opened his jacket (or hoodie) to reveal a handgun. He demanded money and the woman’s ring.
She said no.
The suspect ran away and met up with a second suspect, also described as a black male in his 20s, approximately 5-foot-8, wearing light-colored clothing.
Anyone with information should call the SCV Sheriff’s Station at 661-251-8820. If you spot the suspect(s), call 9-1-1."

Well someone knows how to write news!

Scary how often these things are happening in Santa Clarita.

cms96: Posted: February 18, 2013 11:21 p.m.

143..It is an every day occurence! Im pretty sure these kids are local trying to get their fun money. Then, off to thier parents upscale home in
West Ranch..Oh its nice to be rich!

It's sad, but this incident doesnt surprsie me one bit because I see young kids of all colors including black men and women walking arounnd the Valencia Summit area daily. It appears as though they dont live in the area and are casing the area. I would bet the two perps either live in the apartmets surronding and leading into the Summit and/or are part time students at COC and full time criminals.

The sherrif dept needs to patrol the Valencia Summit more often and not just a quick drive through on Arroyo Pkwy, I honestly cant remember ever seeing a Sheriff Dept cruiser on any of the other streets.

My wife and I have lived in SC Valley for 30 year and we have lived in the Valencia Summit for 15+ years and it is still a safe/quiet place to live. However during that time between COC constantly expanding and the Santa Clarita Valley drawing more people to live I think this will becaome more common.

I jog in the Valencia Summit everyday and if these two punks pulled this crap with me the result would have been much different. Make My Day......

why werent my comments posted.

lars: Posted: February 19, 2013 12:27 a.m.

Dont count on the sheriff being any help here for crimes against citizens.
Their job in Santa Clarita is to produce revenue from tickets,
and to assist business in theft crimes.

I agree with jreno, there alot of cars driving around neighborhoods that dont belong there. In communities with every other house having a bmw, a 20 year old toyota sticks out. There are alot of pickup trucks driving through neighborhoods the day before trash pickup. I thought pickup of trash was illegal.

RatmanG: Posted: February 19, 2013 2:44 a.m.

Whatever they wanted, the answer should have simply been, "Ok, here take it". Saying "No" to someone with a gun is not the best move to make.

Watchdog: Posted: February 19, 2013 6:56 a.m.

Do you think all this crime should be reported in the city of Santa Clarita? It might make people buy less cars.

crazywench: Posted: February 19, 2013 10:24 a.m.

I too have lived in SCV for over 30 years and close to the Summit. One of the really nice walk areas. I am now a senior female and recently took a class Home defence at Oak Tree Gun Club. Put a whole new prospective on taking care of myself. As one of the other comments from jreno007, Make my day too little spoiled creeps. Never know what might be in grandma's warm up suit. It is only going to worse so take the time to learn how to protect yourself and your neighbors.

ohhyaa: Posted: February 19, 2013 11:45 a.m.

@crazywench, I would love to see the look on their faces when G-Ma gives them a lesson they will never forget. You go girl!

sreilly11: Posted: February 19, 2013 12:32 p.m.

Sounds like this city is going to have some new Pistol Pack'n Mama's!

Nice useless, factless, baseless comment. You should be proud.

Nitesho: Posted: February 19, 2013 3:28 p.m.

COC is also adding to the traffic of the summit with all the cars parked on summit place to avoid paying the parking costs. It would be nice if the city would make that a no parking zone.

src: Posted: February 19, 2013 5:42 p.m.

Keep calm and carry concealed. At some point you have to say the hell with the law, my life is more important. Image if someone in this morning's incident in OC had a weapon in their possession. A few of those people would be going home to their families tonight.

DMeyer: Posted: February 19, 2013 9:13 p.m.

@src
And if someone was carrying without a permit but was able to defend theirself against that maniac do you think they would be charged with any crime, heck no! Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

thecloser: Posted: February 19, 2013 10:15 p.m.

wow this lady clearly has no sense or street smarts, i guess whatever she had is worth way more then her life.

DMeyer: Posted: February 20, 2013 12:51 a.m.

thecloser The robbers have no sense either. Wouldn't it be nice if it were them that had to wonder whether or not it was worth their life every time they tried to grab a gold chain off some lady?

src: Posted: February 20, 2013 11:12 a.m.

@DMeyer
Exactly my point. Citizen's rights > criminal's rights.

thecloser: Posted: February 20, 2013 11:25 a.m.

@dmeyer of course those idiots have no sense or they wouldn't be trying to rob people in the first place. But not everyone is as lucky as her in situations like this, it couldve been alot worse for her by doing what she did.

@ jremp007 - your comments were not posted probably because you bad mouthed the signal's writer or editor. Keep it up and your account will become in-active!! The comment section does not give you freedom of speech unless it coinsides with the Signl's opinion. That's what I have found.

@dispatcher Their comments were posted. See the one above. Most likely they were too fast for them to post.
