Jim Ventress, retired Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley leader for 37 years, received a commendation letter from President Barack Obama on Monday during a surprise ceremony at Santa Clarita City Hall.

The framed letter celebrates Ventress’s lifetime of contributions as chief professional officer of the club, which grew tremendously under his leadership.

“Jim Ventress is one of those rare people that is all about what he can do for others,” said Mayor Laurene Weste, who arranged the presentation in Council Chambers. “The number of children and families he’s helped in his lifetime is incalculable.”
