A 43-year-old Castaic woman arrested Wednesday on suspicion of kidnapping a motorist at gunpoint is scheduled to appear in court Friday on a felony charge of kidnapping, according to court documents.

Melissa Bryant, who lives in the Lakehills Mobile Estates on Parker Road in Castaic, remained in custody Thursday at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, held on $100,000 bail.

She is scheduled to make her first appearance in San Fernando Superior Court Friday, according to information provided by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Inmate Information Center.

Bryant is alleged to have committed kidnapping when she got into a car with a motorist and, while holding a gun on him, demanded he drive her home, Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s Deputy Josh Dubin said Wednesday.

She reportedly threatened to kill herself inside the home but was captured when she left the residence around 1:30 p.m.

I hope charges are mitigated due to her mental status and treatment arranged for her. She does not sound like the typical criminal to me but she does need help and someone keeping an eye on her for a while.
