A Valencia registered sex offender, accused of annoying a young girl at a Santa Clarita Valley department store, has accepted a deal offered by prosecutors calling for a 12-year prison term, court officials said Thursday.

Yale Joseph Yurman, 71, appeared Thursday in San Fernando Superior Court as prospective jurors were being chosen for his trial, said Deputy District Attorney Emily Cole of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

Yurman entered a plea of no contest, she said, to a single felony charge of annoying or molesting a child under 18 years of age while having a prior sex crime conviction.

Cole offered Yurman a deal of 12 years in state prison.

He entered his plea as his jury was being selected, she said.

Yurman, one of more than 50 sex offenders registered with the California Department of Justice as living in the Santa Clarita Valley, was ordered to stand trial in October 2013.

Sheriff’s detectives arrested him June 19, 2013, after investigating reports of a man following a young girl and videotaping her while she was walking around inside Target on Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia.

Detectives working with Target’s loss prevention personnel were able to identify the suspect as Yurman. They subsequently served a search warrant on his house in the 23700 block of Hickory Court in Valencia.

Inside they found what they said is evidence showing Yurman followed young girls and videotaped them on several occasions at three locations in the Santa Clarita Valley: Target, Walmart and Real Life Church in Valencia.

They also found evidence of Yurman following girls on the Santa Monica pier, investigators reported.

Yurman was charged July 10, 2013, on suspicion of having annoyed a child, a felony. Bail was set at $1 million, and he remained in custody awaiting the outcome of his trial.

Ditto DMeyer.

Wow. 12 years for following a girl and videotaping a girl in a public space.

Funny how killing or ripping to shreds the "same girl" in other parts of the world with a hellfire missile dropped from a predator drone will get you a medal and a "Support our Troops" bumper sticker.... as long as you wear a uniform?

But then again, it is probably not one of "our" girls... the point here is that the internet is being read by all sorts of people. There are those who may see the blaring double standard here. Those who may not have second thoughts about strapping on an explosives belt.

But great job, all around!

Socrates, Are you Yurman's mom or girlfriend? Perhaps a lover of one of the other 49 living in the SCV? Living in complete denial isn't becoming.

@ohhyaa that was funny i guess "they" didnt read the part he was a convicted "sex offender" following around and taping young girls...Socrates is that a bit of a threat? because you are the only one seeing a double standard and than talking about someone who does, strapping on an explosive belt? i am suprised Jim Holt isnt reading thru the comments

If we're going to talk about ripping to shreds the "same girl" in other parts of the world with a hellfire missile, let's also talk about the "same girl" who gets brutally raped by gorilla soldiers. Or the "same girl" who gets stoned to death because she wants to learn how to read. Or how about the "same girl" who's forced forced to marry a man 30 years her senior because her parents sold her into it? In fact, in other parts of the world, this sexual predator would have been heralded as a "real man".

Sometimes the drones and soldiers are a necessary evil. Sometimes what they do actually HELPS those "Same girls". Are there casualties? Yes. Bringing it up in this forum made no sense other than to show that you have a need for a podium and an audience. But hey - if slamming a "support our troops" bumper sticker makes you feel like more of a philosopher, more power to you.

@chef - "He's prob one of those freaky weird trolls like popped up a few months back"

Yep... Remember Linda Q ??? This time, Linda is using the name "socrates" because she remembers how bad she got bashed with all of our comments. Linda Q - I mean socrates, you are a complete jacka$$ !!!

While I realize (or am hoping) socrates is just being a troll, it's scary to think there are people who actually think that way walking around.

12 Years is not enough. One can only imagine what he has done that he's gotton away with.

Stray, YES! That's exactly who I was referring to, but couldn't remember the name. You hit the nail right on the head!
