Immigration protest planned Saturday in Valencia

Posted: July 17, 2014 7:34 p.m.
Updated: July 17, 2014 7:34 p.m.

Opponents of the recent influx of migrant children across the nation’s southern border have scheduled a two-day national protest, and the Santa Clarita Valley will be one of the sites where they plan to demonstrate.

Protests are scheduled Friday and Saturday across the country as part of the National Day of Protesting Against Immigration Reform, Amnesty and Border Surge.

On Saturday organizers plan a demonstration in Valencia on the Valencia Boulevard overpass over Interstate 5. The demonstration is expected to run from 9 a.m. to noon.

The topic has been a divisive one across the country. On July 1 protesters turned back buses bound for Murrietta, Calif., to process illegal immigrants there.

Prospects for a political solution faded Thursday as Washinton, D.C., lawmakers traded accusations rather than solutions, raising chances that Congress will head out for its summer recess without doing anything about the tens of thousands of migrant children streaming into South Texas.

"Opponents of the recent influx of migrant children across the nation’s southern boarder have scheduled a two-day national protest.. HOW SAD

Rocketeer: Posted: July 18, 2014 12:53 a.m.

"...raising chances that Congress will head out for its summer recess without doing anything about the tens of thousands of migrant children streaming into South Texas."

So what should Congress do? Do as the Democrats insist and grant amnesty to every illegal? Will THAT stop people from streaming in? No, that will just encourage many, many more.

Perhaps Congress should pass laws to secure our border? No, Obama chooses which laws he wishes to enforce and ignores or unilaterally changes the rest.

Perhaps they could vote to establish and fund a Border patrol to protect America? No, that won't work. Obama will just do what he's already done: Order the Border Patrol to act as travel agents for the illegals on an all expenses paid trip to a taxpayer-funded welcoming center complete with social workers to sign them all up for free housing, welfare, food stamps, and scholarships.

The only person who can fix this mess is the very person who orchestrated it: Barack Obama. And why would he do that? Those aren't just any children streaming across the border, they're the future Democrats of America.

SCVMJB: Posted: July 18, 2014 1:49 a.m.

The words on the Base of the Statue of Liberty read: ""Give me your tired, your poor/ Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free/The wretched refuse of your teeming shore/Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me/I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
The protest is about CHILDREN escaping from countries where they have a 90% chance of being killed by gangs. I'll bet these protesters care more about fetuses than they do about children who have been born. What's next? Bomb the Statue of Liberty?

balld13: Posted: July 18, 2014 9:26 a.m.

There is such a thing as legal immigration, just ask my in-laws, who had skills and a sponser. These recent arrivals are breaking American law, NOT doing it the right way. I wish I could choose what laws I want to obey, but that leads to anarchy. Maybe if we enforce our immigration laws like Mexico does, all would be better.

ricketzz: Posted: July 18, 2014 9:48 a.m.

The idiot Tea Party once again reminds us of their idiocy. Demonstrations against the Central American asylum seekers are planned nationwide at Mexican Consulates, like they are the problems.

There are millions of refugees, all over the world, and we are too rich not to take a few thousand in once in a while. Just like the Boat People. Remember the Boat People? How we greeted them with open arms in Texas? Ha. Same prejudice, different faces.

The border is as "secure" as it gets in a free country. Do you want a DMZ with barb wire? Claymores to make hamburger out of the cattle that graze up to the water's edge on both sides of Rio Bravo?

This is the richest country in the world, or is it?

chefgirl358: Posted: July 18, 2014 10:30 a.m.

SCVMJB...many of these "children" ARE the gangs! Don't you get it?
Not only are most of them gang members, of the most dangerous gangs like Mara El Salvatrucha, but a large number of these folks coming in are carrying very dangerous communicable diseases such as active tuberculosis, scabies, lice, and a host of other very serious illnesses. Border patrol guards and their family members have gotten sick from these people.

Obama created this fiasco and he better fix it quick because these protests...are just the beginning. This has the potential to really incite some very nasty political and social divisions, far worse than we see now.

OldReliable: Posted: July 18, 2014 10:32 a.m.

How many should we allow to enter illegally?

Before87: Posted: July 18, 2014 11:03 a.m.

Just an Idea!

How about we take care of the six thousand homeless vets
in L.A.

And how many in the rest of the country??

I Read an article on yahoo and they were asking these "Refugees"
where the money comes from to take care of these
kids. He said it comes from the government.
Then asked where does the government get the money
and he said he didn't know.

That's just great.

Nitesho: Posted: July 18, 2014 11:05 a.m.

Odd Ricketzz...I see no mention of the tea party in this article...

"There are millions of refugees, all over the world, and we are too rich not to take a few thousand in once in a while"

Also, Why are the refugees? Don't say gang violence because if that's the case, your liberal utopia's of Chicago, Washington DC, Philly, New York, Los Angeles, Denver, New Jersey, Detroit would all qualify. Oh and it's not a "few thousand" It's pretty close to a 100k and growing every day.

"Demonstrations against the Central American asylum seekers are planned nationwide at Mexican Consulates, like they are the problems. "

They are...they are/were actively telling people to come.

SVCMJB "The protest is about CHILDREN escaping from countries where they have a 90% chance of being killed by gangs." Source?

Also, Can someone explain to me something? I keep hearing that our immigration system is "broken". What exactly is wrong with it, other than it not being enforced?

stray: Posted: July 18, 2014 11:17 a.m.

@ProjAlice - "Opponents have scheduled a two-day national protest" - How Sad

Really??? ... Your Liberal bleeding heart should go out there and embrace them. Then YOU should be financially responsible for them for the next 20 years! That includes all their medical bills and tuition!

@Rocketeer - You could not have said it better!

@Before87 - "How about we take care of the six thousand homeless vets in L.A.?"

Terrific idea! Plz write that bimbo on Pennsylvania Ave and tell him that. Only problem with that is, he'll shred your letter just as fast as he reads it! That disgusting idiot!

@chefgirl - "Obama created this fiasco and he better fix it quick"

Trust me, he has no plans in his agenda to do anything of that sort. So, don't hold your breath waiting!

Here ya go... Our inept Obozo - Here's a Hollywood statement...

stray: Posted: July 18, 2014 11:34 a.m.

@Nitesho - "Can someone explain why our immigration system is "broken"

"America’s immigration system is broken. Too many employers game the system by hiring undocumented workers and there are more than 12 million people living in the shadows. Neither is good for the economy or the country"

Here's what Obozo proposed a while back and you decide if he kept his word...

"The President’s proposal provides undocumented immigrants with a legal way to earn citizenship so they can come out of the shadows. It holds them accountable by requiring they pass background checks, pay taxes and a penalty, go to the back of the line, and learn English. It requires everyone to play by the same rules."

How's that working out ??? The illegals are flooding our borders and have taken "cuts" and are right in the front of the line - not the back!

Nitesho: Posted: July 18, 2014 11:40 a.m.

"Too many employers game the system by hiring undocumented workers"

Fine them $100,000 per employee....Or the $1,000,000 per day fine they wanted for Obamacare

There. Glitch fixed. But that's not what they want....

missyJk: Posted: July 18, 2014 12:21 p.m.

i just want to throw out there how we let some young men from a war torn country come to our Country and they showed their gratitude by setting off bombs in Boston...We are now a Country who cant support our own as we see in the homeless and the seniors (elderly) and we should take in more and support them? Are they willing to sign waivers to stay off the government rolls? While i do believe we need to do something to keep the ones who have been here for decades the new ones send them back

garyr: Posted: July 18, 2014 1:49 p.m.

"How about we take care of the six thousand homeless vets
in L.A. "

How about we learn to do more than one thing at a time? If children can walk and chew gum at the same time why do you think a government made up of multitudes of individual adults can't?

itzreality: Posted: July 18, 2014 1:55 p.m.

We need to send each and everyone back! Start to enforce the law of this country! Take care of our own homeless, poor, charity begins at home! Then we have to vote out all these self-rightous elected pigs and get folks in that will work for the American people, not illegals and the rest of the world! We need to take back America!

Nitesho: Posted: July 18, 2014 1:56 p.m.

@Ricketzz. Look in the mirror when you are calling names. You are a typical brainwashed liberal. Who will pay for services and food? The country already is in debt owing countries money and needs to take care of it's own.
How would you like it if the welfare check you receive went to them?

CastaicClay: Posted: July 18, 2014 2:16 p.m.

I see no mention of the tea party in this article... or Obama for that matter.

FunTimeSportSharks: Posted: July 18, 2014 2:47 p.m.

People aren't against "immigration" to the USA, it's entering the USA "illegally" that is the point of issue. People should immigrate to the USA by legal means and people fleeing countries because of various issues can do so legally like all the other law abiding immigrants. A majority of people, including myself, have issue that current USA citizens and legal immigrants that need help may not get any because financial resources are being depleted by those that crossed the border "illegally". We do need to take care of the USA citizens that are military veterans, homeless, children in the foster care system and the children's education/health in general so they can grow to be productive citizens that can help our country grow in positive ways so we can take in additional legal immigrants (looking to become proud USA citizens themselves) into a thriving America. Additionally, there are also a great number of other people that have issue with those that come to the USA by illegal means and make no effort to learn the language and make no effort to assimilate into American culture. Sorry if I offended anyone with my opinion.

Unreal: Posted: July 18, 2014 3:00 p.m.

Chefgirl fox news reports only 16 had been reported as "gang members".
My own eyes see thousands of kids who are very small babies to 14 and 15.
Very nice looking kids, not all tatted up like the gang bangers.

Apparently almost all of the kids are from Honduras. There are a lot of gang members there, many who we deported back there. A 15 year old kid had gone missing a couple months ago and his little 10 year old brother had gone riding his bike looking for him. Apparently he was asking too many questions around a house known to have gang members and he went missing too. A couple days later they found both bodies. The little boy had been tortured before being killed. This was one of the incidents that was plastered all over the papers in Honduras and has started some of this exodus.

Obama's government has not helped stem the tide. In fact his policies gave these people an alternative to the crazy gang violence going on at home.

We need to send these kids back with their parents. We need to help our southern neighbors and I don't mean Mexico whose corrupt government has enough drug money now to help themselves. We can help support Honduras so they can get the necessary police (after rooting out the corrupt officers)
to protect the innocent families there.

stray: Posted: July 18, 2014 3:05 p.m.

@FunTime - "Sorry if I offended anyone with my opinion"

You didn't offend me! What you said is unequivocally the whole truth of the matter. I would speculate that the majority of Americans don't mind one bit - that people enter legally and go thru the entire process. We all have heard stories of how hard it was way back when immigrants had to land at Ellis Island and you had to have skills AND someone had to sponsor you to get here! That's long gone - so people now are trampling into this country in droves and we're gonna fork the bill for this! Yeah, so much for a "protected" border! Where's Homeland Security keeping these gangs from entering like chefgirl mentioned earlier ??? They are nowhere to be found; and the feckless BHO opened the floodgates to this mess and he couldn't give a rats a$$ what we think about it!

I'm glad people are protesting this! We need to throw Obozo out of office! I would love to see protestors with signs saying "Throw Obozo out of Office." !!!

We're in the midst of the largest land invasion in the history of the United States. We spend $620 billion dollars a year on a military that instead of dealing with this is awol somewhere polishing their collective boots.

johnnyrock: Posted: July 18, 2014 3:53 p.m.

Before87..........I posted something similar to what you said on facebook, well needless to say I had unfriend several people. These people know exactly what they are doing, they know they won't be turned away. I say why can't we help out own first? What is so wrong about that?

chefgirl358: Posted: July 18, 2014 5:13 p.m.

Stray, Yes...totally agree with you. Obama made another statement recently that sums up how trustworthy he really is..."If you like your insurance, You can keep it!"

That is just about on par with his ridiculous, back of the line, pay a fine, nonsense.

Checksum: Posted: July 18, 2014 5:14 p.m.

Why doesn't the Signal publish the source on this story? Does no one have the courage to come out as the organizer for this?

chefgirl358: Posted: July 18, 2014 5:25 p.m.

Unreal, we should support Honduras police (REALLY? SERIOUSLY?) just like we supported Iraq and taught their soldiers how to be a military...then they threw their/OUR arms to the enemy and ran away, on our dime thankyouverymuch. No, we do NOT need to help support Honduras! Yes, many of those kids are gang members, and I see you totally avoided the issue of the DISEASE carrying folks who, if they had gone the legal immigration route, would have been weeded out without bringing all of their toxic sh** to the USA! I know there are many kids involved that are little, young children, and that sucks for them, truly I mean that, but we have to clean up our own house first, and everyone else needs to immigrate here legally. I have several very dear friends and coworkers who have come here from countries literally all around the globe; Indonesia, Phillipines, Columbia, Great Britain, Mexico, various South American countries and China. They all came here legally, and they worked very hard when they got here - starting out with practically nothing. Now, they all have good jobs and nice homes, and love it here and are so proud to be American and love this country. In fact, we all helped my Filipino friend study for her citizenship test last year and celebrated when she was sworn in as a US Citizen. THAT is how people should come to America...legally, and with a desire to be a part of our country and contribute, not just to glom onto our generosity and mooch off of every system available like a blood sucking vampire. --edited.

Unreal: Posted: July 18, 2014 5:43 p.m.

Although there are some with issues like lice etc, the immunization rate as reported on FOX and CNN in Honduras is well over 90% which is higher than the rate in USA.

You must have missed where I said they should go back. I just don't see a reason to be a hater. These look like good kids mostly to me and if I was in their position in life I would try to come here too.

I also said to support law enforcement in Honduras AFTER they take steps to get rid of the police thugs.

Have a nice weekend hating.

FunTimeSportSharks: Posted: July 18, 2014 6:20 p.m.

A side note about the people who are "pro-illegal entry immigration," they're not helping their cause and winning a majority of people over to support their side when they wave a flag that isn't the good ole stars & stripes and display signs that are written in a different language. Like it or not, it is a turn off for the main stream when it is seem on news outlets and that ends up reinforcing a lot of the negative views against those that have immigrated via illegal-entry. By NOT waiving the Star Spangled Banner and hoisting signs in a different language gives the impression to a vast majority in this country that these "illegal entry" people do not want to assimilate into U.S. American culture and says they just want to take advantage of the system. Again, apologies for anything I have written that might have offended anyone. This is my opinion and hope that it is respected (just as I respect the opinion of someone who doesn't agree with me). Debate threads like these are great for airing out opinions & ideas that will hopefully result in positive changes for everyone that loves being or aspires to be a U.S. American citizen. But, the road to U.S. American citizen should be obtained in a "legal" manner so it is fair for all of the immigrants from all countries that wish to be U.S. American citizens. U.S.A. * U.S.A. * U.S.A. all the way!

chefgirl358: Posted: July 18, 2014 6:28 p.m.

I am not a hater. I do not hate these people. I don't blame them for wanting to come here, I would want to come here too. When did I ever say I blame them or hate them? I never said that or implied it. I blame Obama for creating this boondoggle. I blame our government for not stepping up when this started and nipping it in the butt before it became the out of control mess it is now.

Active tuberculosis is more that "some issue like lice". A great number of these folks are also from El Salvador and Guatemala, who's medical care ain't so great and many of them are carrying some nasty sicknesses.

I love my immigrant friends dearly, in some ways even more than my American born friends because they have a naive trusting sweetness about them that we don't have here. My Asian girlfriends from several countries (in my last post) are all so sweet and trusting and, for lack of a better word, young for their age...they have an innocence as grown adults that Americans lose as very young children that is actually very endearing and refreshing to be around. They're all smart as whips, I don't mean to imply they are clueless - FAR from it, but they are different in the best possible way and I love spending time with them, it's very humbling because of how spoiled we are and how much we take for granted. Hearing their stories of what their lives were like in their home countries or their struggles when they arrived here are absolutely tear jerking, but they don't complain at all...they're simply grateful. They make me appreciate everything I have and everything we have in this country.

So no, I am not a hater. I just want the people who come here to do it legally, just like my friends did.

DMeyer: Posted: July 18, 2014 7:12 p.m.

@Unreal

Of course everyone wants to come here, this is the greatest country on earth. And we should have people from all over the world come here and assimilate into our society, but in an orderly and legal fashion. If I was a legal immigrant I would be outraged....the mad rush at our southern border makes a mockery of our laws.

Follow the rules and regulations that are in place to gain legal entrance to our country and U.S. citizenship, just like the multitude of legal immigrants have been doing for a very long time.

stray: Posted: July 18, 2014 7:35 p.m.

@chefgirl - "I don't blame them for wanting to come here, I would want to come here too"

Ditto that! None of us can really blame them for their quest to come here and have a much better life. But, this "green light" that BHO has turned on, needs to be turned to "red light" !!!

Many of us, including myself and wife, feel extremely sorry for anybody, in any country, who has corrupted, inept governments who cannot stop the violence. Of course, people will flee for their lives - including you and me! But, the United States cannot take in all these people and nurture them on the American taxpayers dime. Why haven't we heard of ONE country welcoming them to migrate over there ??? Sounds to me, nobody wants them - but Obozo does - so he can fulfill his quest for immigration reform while fliping the middle finger at the Congress. Yeah the finger right at those pesky Republican obstructionists! (sarcasm)

My main point was to bring a TV channel to your attention. It's called "Aljazeera America" and I know that Time Warner offers it with a standard digital package at no extra charge. It's a TV station headquartered in New York and don't really get into many politics - but covers everything ALL over the world... I cannot speak of any TV satellite companies that might broadcast it, because I don't have it. But, you can check it out. The program that they broadcast is called "BorderLand" and I'm highly recommending that you see it. They view it for a while then remove it from their programming, but they do re-play the two part series... I know that they last viewed it about two weeks ago. I believe they only do it on weekends, but don't take my word - check it out... The whole series, two hours long total, is about how the men, women and children jump onto a cargo train and start out from the southern Mexican border which will take them thru sweltering hot climate during their journey. Then they all jump off the train when it's near the US border, and you know the rest... They trek through the hot desert and some don't make it and die right there in the desert. It shows where seven or eight Americans from different states ride on that same cargo train with the Hondurans, El Salvadoreans, and Guatemalans. The TV cameras are rolling the entire time. Then, the Americans trek through the same terrain as the illegals do and see how hard that journey is. Seriously, it's an absolute reality of what those illegals go thru to get here. Some of those illegals are raped, molested and some killed and left dead in the desert. If they make it, once here, our Border Patrols get their names, ask where they are from, who is their relative here in the US, if applicable, and then they receive basic medical services, and treated on the spot. Trust me, watch this program!

I find it sad that those who claim to love their country spend so much time ridiculing their president and his wife Why such anger and hatred of another human being just because you don't agree with their politics?

Attacking the children and wife of our nation's president is cruel and off limits ( your fear and anger controls your inability to reason or find common ground with those you don't agree with Nancy Reagan , Barbara Bush, Laura Bush, Rosalynn Carter were treated with more respect even Hillary Clinton whom I am sure you probably hate as well.

Michelle Obama has been compared to an ape spoken of in such a disrespectful way ..Why? I ask this one simple question what are you teaching your children about respect for our nation or even those they may not agree with in life? Do you tell them to hate people and ridicule them and call them names just to show how much you can dislike a person. The scripture says Do Unto Others as You Would Have them Do Unto You...but that does not matter to those who claim to be real Americans In your arrogance you believe your political party and your views regarding those who do not share your particular heritage by culture or race is better than others...this is a sin.

H.R. 7311 (110th): William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008. 110th Congress, 2007–2009. Text as of Jan 01, 2008 (Passed Congress/Enrolled Bill).
H.R.7311
One Hundred Tenth Congress
of the
United States of America
AT THE SECOND SESSION
Begun and held at the City of Washington on Thursday,
the third day of January, two thousand and eight
An Act
To authorize appropriations for fiscal years 2008 through 2011 for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, to enhance measures to combat trafficking in persons, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
3) RULE FOR OTHER CHILDREN- The custody of unaccompanied alien children not described in paragraph (2)(A) who are apprehended at the border of the United States or at a United States port of entry shall be treated in accordance with subsection (b).
(4) SCREENING- Within 48 hours of the apprehension of a child who is believed to be described in paragraph (2)(A), but in any event prior to returning such child to the child’s country of nationality or of last habitual residence, the child shall be screened to determine whether the child meets the criteria listed in paragraph (2)(A). If the child does not meet such criteria, or if no determination can be made within 48 hours of apprehension, the child shall immediately be transferred to the Secretary of Health and Human Services and treated in accordance with subsection (b). Nothing in this paragraph may be construed to preclude an earlier transfer of the child.

But this will mean nothing if you can't understand law but you are stuck on hate, anger and bitterness.

DMeyer: Posted: July 19, 2014 3:27 p.m.

@tygr500

Politics brings out the worst in us, from both sides of the aisle. Disrespect of our leaders reached a peak when George W. Bush was in office, the liberal left unleashed unabashed vitriol against him. I have not heard Michelle Obama compared to an ape but I constantly heard Dubya compared to a monkey, don't you? I voted for Dubya but I recognized he many shortcomings.

In 2008 I voted for Barack Obama when he ran for president, I believed our country needed a new direction and was thrilled that an African American would be president of our country, we have truly come a long way. I was fascinated by his bold vision and with his charisma.

Like so many Americans I soon realized that he was not the president he claimed he could be, that he was in over his head, that he was dishonest and that he was a actually a mean person, a divider. He did not have good leadership skills and his arrogance prevented him with working with others to solve our countries problems. It was those traits that prevented me from voting for him again in 2012. I'm glad that we had our first African American president, but I do not follow any particular party and I do not base my opinions of people based on their race or heritage, but on the content of their character (have you heard that before).

This immigration crisis is the latest example of his ineptness. People are getting tired of him because of his failed presidency not because he is not same race as they are. Let's not be naïve, there are people out there who do hate based on race, religion and a whole different set of circumstances, and of course politics. Neither side can claim moral superiority on this issue, so next time a Republican gets into the White House and you can bet your bottom dollar that we will hear the same disrespect spewed at him/her and his/her family.

America was a much, much different place back then. Prior to 1910, there were little to no protections or government assistance for ANY ONE, whether one was born in this country, lived here for years, or was a new immigrant.

When Ellis Island was the main port of entry for immigrants, newly arriving immigrants had to go through a series of tests to see whether they would be allowed to stay. According to http://www.essortment.com/requirements-immigrants-ellis-island-21024.html, " Immigrants who entered the United States at Ellis Island were not permitted to remain in the country if they had a contagious disease such as smallpox, yellow fever or the measles. If they were deemed likely to end up needing to receive welfare or otherwise seemed unable to provide for themselves, they would be refused admission. Finally, if they were assessed as likely to become an illegal contract laborer, they would be refused entry. People who seemed to be "alien radicals" were interned."

Even if immigrants were allowed to stay, they had to find ways to provide for ALL their needs since there was no tax-payer funded government hand outs. Had the US not established all our current social programs, illegal immigration would never have become an issue. Immigrants, regardless of how they arrived, or what country they came from, would either assimilate and thrive in this country, or they would have no choice but to go home...not at all the case today.

tygr, Michelle Obama is not off limits. Barrack stopped being President the day after the inauguration and Michelle has picked up the baton and has it in her hand. If you don't see how Michelle, as Barracks "A+++" personality type wife, has been driving him since the day she realized they could make it into the White House, then I can't help you.

@tygr - "Attacking the wife of our nation's president is cruel and off limits"

Not when she's wearing the pants in the white house! If you cannot see that, get an eye examination!

"Michelle Obama has been compared to an ape "

I think it was actually a wookie

@Nitesho - "It was actually a wookie"

That is hilarious! I see the close similarity there! :)

Hey, once you step into the public limelight, everything is fair game. Accept it or don't enter the public service sector!

Besides, it's payback time Michelle! You mentioned years ago, that you never felt safe in this country until YOUR buffoon took office. Now, you know how WE don't feel safe in OUR country because your buffoon is turning a blind eye with all these criminals entering illegally.
