A woman was injured and taken to the hospital Sunday after a motorist allegedly hit her car as she was getting something out of the vehicle, an investigator with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Traffic Section said.

About noon Sunday, a woman was “retrieving something” from her car which was parked on Race Street in Newhall, investigator Sgt. Travis Kelly said Monday morning.

“The lady had her car parked on Race Street and while she was retrieving something from the car, someone ran into her car,” he said.

“The motorist fled the scene but later turned himself in,” Kelly said.

The woman complained of neck and back injury and was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies arrested Jose Flores, a tow truck driver who lives in Newhall, on suspicion of hit and run causing injury or death, according to information on the Inmate Information Center maintained by the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department.

Flores is scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court Tuesday.

He remains in custody with bail set at $50,000.
