A Valencia man arrested last month on suspicion he wounded a woman in her eye during a road rage incident pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges filed against him.

Cory Allen Flenory, 28, appeared in San Fernando Superior Court and entered the plea to one count of mayhem, one count of vandalism over $400 and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, District Attorney’s office spokesman Ricardo Santiago said,

Prosecutors allege Flenory used a BB gun as a deadly weapon. They also say he has a 2005 felony conviction in Tulare for carjacking, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, Deputy District Attorney Guy Shirley said last month.

The felony complaint filed against Flenory also includes one count of injuring a spouse for an unrelated incident on May 5. That incident also involved a BB gun, Santiago said.

Flenory was ordered to appear back in court July 9.

On May 17, he allegedly shot one of two victims in the eye after they attempted to confront him over a collision in a Walmart parking lot in Stevenson Ranch, Shirley said at the time of the arrest.

The victim, a photographer, suffered permanent damage to her eye, Santiago said.

She underwent emergency surgery to save her eye, Deputy Josh Dubin said. Surgeons at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center spent seven hours attending to the woman’s injury.

Deputies who arrested Flenory May 19 used pepper spray to detain him after he allegedly kicked out the window of a sheriff’s car, Dubin said. He remains in custody with bail set at $1,275,000.

If convicted as charged, Flenory faces multiple life terms in state prison.

He should get a serious sentence but life sentence seems absurd. This was a BB gun attack. Rapists and murders can easily end up with less of a sentence. I say 5 years sounds about right. Unfortunately the woman will have this eye injury for the rest of her life though.

I see he has not had any legal trouble for 10 years so I think he may have a drug issue now. Maybe rehab or anger management should be required too. I know a lot of you had been looking at his Facebook page and deciding you did not like his look or tattoo’s. I don't think that should be the way this is decided.

The story above makes it sound like he went up to the woman and shot her in the eye but the original story said he shot a BB at the car as it was pulling out of the parking lot. That makes a difference to me. The woman was still injured though so he will have to serve some time behind bars.

Very stupid thing to do.

Not in any legal trouble for 10 years? He was convicted 9 years ago of some serious violent felony crimes, I bet he was incarcerated for the majority of the last 10 years.

Obviously he hasn't learned to behave yet, lock him up until he's a senior citizen, then when he gets out and acts up a potential victim can put him in his place before the courts do. Some people never learn, this is one of them.
