Reports of a student in possession of a gun near Sierra Vista Junior High School Tuesday prompted swift response by local sheriff’s deputies, but no weapon was found, school and law enforcement sources said.

An initial report indicated “a possible object in the waistband of a student outside of campus,” William S. Hart Union High School District spokeswoman Gail Pinsker said. The youngster, whose age and name were not released, had been arrested earlier in the day on a separate offense.

Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies were sent to the school on Stillmore Street in Canyon Country about 2 p.m. on reports of a student with a gun in the area, said Lt. Tom Bryski.

Three juveniles were questioned about reports of a gun in their possession, but no gun was found, one deputy said.

“It sounds like the kid didn’t have a gun,” Bryski said Tuesday afternoon.

No students were on campus due to an early release schedule Tuesday.

Deputies searched two of the streets that border the school on Pleasantdale Street and Camp Plenty Road.

School officials sent home letter about the incident from Sierra Vista Principal Mark Crawford, Pinsker said. It read:

“Dear Sierra Vista parents: You may hear news today of a student arrest at school this morning that resulted in some concerns with the student after school, off campus, following his release.

“Local law enforcement is following up with the student and his family. Students were never in any danger. We want to assure you that the safety of your students is our No. 1 priority,” the letter read.

Why has my son just received a text alert about someone with a gun at the COC Valencia campus? Does anyone know what that's about?

Vtown123: Posted: May 7, 2014 9:59 p.m.

My fiance got a phone call from COC. Supposed man with a gun that was later apprehended in Lot 15. --edited.

Kid supposedly had an air gun and was apprehended.
Anyone know what went on at 3am on Plum Canyon Road???? Sheriff closed it off for close to 3 hours, and not a word anywhere about it.

My kid got two messages from COC and tons from Friends about the incident at COC. As Vtown stated, perp apprehended in Lot 15. Although I fail to understand why the Signal didn't jump on this, it appears that COC staff/students all proceeded as they should have....pass the information on. Maybe as parents when information like this is presented to us, we should contact the Signal and let them know. Somewhere in the system of reporting there seems to be a glitch.........this type of information should be put out there ASAP.

Hey Jim Holt...what happened to the comments in your article where the kid was held at gunpoint by the sheriff's?

Were you wrong, or did the sheriff's ask you to remove it?
