World Run to bring road closures in Santa Clarita

As exciting as it will be to host a portion of a world-wide race, Santa Clarita drivers out-and-about early Sunday morning will need to strategically plan their routes.

Santa Clarita is one of 35 host cities across the globe for the “Wings for Life World Run” and the only starting point on the West Coast.

With over 1,500 runners signed up to commence the fundraising race from Westfield Valencia Town Center at 3 a.m. on Sunday, event organizers “strongly suggest residents avoid travel, if possible” between 2:40 a.m. and 6 a.m., according to the city’s website.

Rolling traffic closures for Santa Clarita streets and highway off-ramps during the race — which proceeds through Valencia, Stevenson Ranch, Newhall, Saugus and Canyon Country — are listed at www.Santa-Clarita.com/WingsforLife.

The city’s web site added that the Sheriff’s Department “will strictly enforce posted road closures,” but that the closures don’t apply to emergency-response vehicles.

Damn. I was planning to drive to the Mall at 4 in the morning. What will I do now?

HOw lame. The organizers don't realize no one is out between 2:40am and 6:00 am on a Sunday morning here in Awesometown. What a waste of an article.

A good time to go out and get wasted and drive home without worrying about a DUI.
