Santa Clarita city facilities, including City Hall and all branches of the city public library system, will be closed Monday to mark Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Also closed Monday are Santa Clarita Valley school districts and most county and federal offices, including post offices, libraries and Los Angeles County courts.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day was established as a federal holiday in 1983 to honor the slain civil rights leader of the 1960s. It is designed to fall on or near King’s birthday, Jan. 15, 1929, and is observed the third week of January.

City buildings will resume normal hours on Tuesday.

Must be nice..

Back in Texas, my black friends were so upset every year that MLK Day wasn't a paid holiday it would make them too sick to come to work on that day. I adopted their stance. Another great American tradition started by the Black Man.
