Styrofoam is the new gun control

Tired of the debate on gun control and sick of hearing about global warming?

Well, get ready for the new subject of media conversation ... styrofoam cups.

That’s right, styrofoam cups.

New York City Mayor Bloomberg has asked for a ban on the cups, saying they take up 30 percent of landfills and they will be there forever because they do not break down.

Remember the ban on plastic bags?

The cups will be next — and them perhaps plastic silverware.

Is it a good idea?

Perhaps.

In any case, we can be sure that the debate will soon be here in California.

Good idea about banning plastic silverware !!
How's about banning plastic cups and plates??
"30 percent of landfills are filled with plastic and they will be there forever because they do not break down." Now that is scary !!

"Tired of the debate on gun control and sick of hearing about global warming?"
Never get tired of two very important subjects that will save lives !!!!!!

Rightfully so those debates will and should soon be here in California. !!!!!

It's a tough one; it likely IS bad on the environment but I don't know if any eco-friendlier packaging is cost effective enough for business owners, especially small business owners. The big corporations can and will change at the drop of the hat if they think it'll improve their image with the public; small business can't always do this because it involves a lot of extra expense as well as possibly breaking away from suppliers they'd worked with for years.

I'd pick nature over business any day but if they have these suggestions or rules for business they really need to help the little guy change over or else you risk them dying out, unable to keep up with environmental demand. Of course, you could think conspiracy and believe these regulations are how they will kill small businesses.

Yep, get ready for more foolishness here in California.

Won't our single-party state politicians become envious if Nanny Bloomberg receives all the media adulation?
