GOP, think about the jobs

Here is what gets me: The Republicans are always asking, where are the jobs? Well as of March 1, 2013, they are going to let thousands of people get laid off.

You think this last recession was bad? You have not seen anything yet.

Exactly, we haven't seen anything yet, economic results from all the spending, that is.

It's a very tiny start, but maybe March 1, 2013 was the start of change for the better. The spending attitude is unsustainable. Something must be done.

Republicans should be credited for coming up with this sequester idea.
Something had to be done.

CaptGene: Posted: March 4, 2013 8:37 a.m.

I wonder if Larry realizes the even with the sequester the government will still spend more money this year than last year.

itzreality: Posted: March 4, 2013 9:38 a.m.

We need to show these elected officals who DO NOT care about us a lesson, VOTE THEM ALL OUT! Let's face it when they passed the tax bill to prevent the "cliff" there was plenty of pork for them. New cars for the Speaker of the House and freebes. We need to stop sending billions overseas each day and use that here, it is our money the American Taxpayer. These funds can be used to create jobs, not overseas freeloaders. WE are that the ATM for the rest of the world!

We need to get off our duffs and DEMAND change or maybe start recall elections! If you want to play the blame game we can blame ourselves for keeping them in office!

OldReliable: Posted: March 4, 2013 10:13 a.m.

Larry & his left wingers do not care a whit about our enormous National debt; simply tax the rich more & more & more.... yeah, that'll do it.

therightstuff: Posted: March 4, 2013 11:14 a.m.

"""You have not seen anything yet."""

When it comes to Obama's shameless doomsday scare tactics about budget cuts, I couldn't have said it better than what I quoted from the LTE.

Dumbounded: Posted: March 4, 2013 12:05 p.m.

Every sperm....ooops, every penny is sacred!

Learn the facts people.

We are only "cutting" 45 billion from now until the end of the fiscal year, September.

The federal government will still spend 15 billion MORE than it did the prior FY.

They ALL lie to us, from both parties. If there is any person alive who doesn't think they could reasonably cut 2 or 3 percent from their budget, then you are gallactically stupid and belong working for the federal government.

Exactly. Thank you, DB. Anyone who thinks one party is honest and the other is not is as gullable as a 4-year old. Both parties each have their own set of special interests they are beholden to. THEY ARE ALL WRONG.

Socalguy: Posted: March 4, 2013 12:54 p.m.

GOP does not care about your jobs, they care about their party and their cronies and hwo to make them richer, that's it, case closed.

bluto: Posted: March 4, 2013 12:59 p.m.

Those nasty repubs are at it again. Larry, you just keep you TV on MSNBC and keep those opinions coming.

Dumbounded: Posted: March 4, 2013 1:42 p.m.

"GOP does not care about your jobs, they care about their party and their cronies and hwo to make them richer, that's it, case closed."

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

OldReliable: Posted: March 4, 2013 2:18 p.m.

Socalguy... that Obama Koolaid tastes really good, huh. Hah!

therightstuff: Posted: March 4, 2013 6:36 p.m.

Hilarious responses to socalguy's idiocy but remember he said, "case closed!" No one else is allowed to comment on his opinion, especially if you have facts.

Typical liberal.

Mella: Posted: March 4, 2013 6:37 p.m.

Here's something interesting....In October, just before the election, Obama sat down with the Des Moines Register for an interview. What he said in that interview, he must have regretted. Why he said it, no one knows...But the White House told/ordered the Des Moines Register NOT to run that interview...they eventually did later on, but his words went unnoticed because no one knew the significance of those words UNTIL NOW...when they 100% can prove that Obama is a LIAR! He said, and I'm quoting.... "So when you combine the Bush tax cuts expiring, THE SEQUESTER IN PLACE...( MY caps added) we're going to be in a position where I believe in the first six months we are going to solve that big piece of business. It will probably be messy. It won’t be pleasant. But I am absolutely confident that we can get what is the equivalent of the grand bargain."
He had it cooked up even back in OCTOBER of last year! And he is blaming the Republicans.
Read more here...(and don't discount the truth because of WHERE the truth comes from...do your own digging, go to the the Des Moines Register yourself if you don't like MY messenger....

bluto: Posted: March 4, 2013 6:55 p.m.

Larry, you should have waited to write your letter...Maxine Waters says there's gonna be 170,000 people layed off. Imagine if you had waited and then put up a big, scary number like that!

JohnnyCash: Posted: March 4, 2013 7:51 p.m.

Miss Waters, in her infinite wisdom, actually said that there were going to be 170 MILLION people laid off as a result of the sequester.

therightstuff: Posted: March 4, 2013 7:59 p.m.

JC is correct. Waters said 170,000,000 people would be laid off.

"WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE!!!"

ricketzz: Posted: March 5, 2013 9:49 a.m.

It is not a pro-growth move. The deficit is dropping. The sky is not.

philellis: Posted: March 5, 2013 11:12 a.m.

It is not a pro-growth move. The deficit is dropping. The sky is not.

Thank the Republican controlled Congress for that!

OldReliable: Posted: March 5, 2013 11:40 a.m.

News Alert! Despite sequestration and Obama's wild armageddon rantings, the Feds are still hiring and airports are still buzzing unconstrained.

Hey Ricketzzz, have you checked the National Debt Clock lately? There's no dropping goin' on! Sheeesh....

stevehw: Posted: March 5, 2013 3:10 p.m.

Hey, OR, have you checked a dictionary today?

ricketzz: Posted: March 6, 2013 10:27 a.m.

Sheesh. The most basic bush league mistake made when voluntarily lobotomized knuckle draggers try to sound informed on matters of public finance is confusing debt and deficit.

Dumbounded: Posted: March 6, 2013 10:58 a.m.

Not only that, but the most common and ignorant solution offered to the idiotic American public is that that the deficit is dropping. What kind of simplistic knuckle dragger would cheer over the fact that the deficit is dropping? Perhaps it's because said idiot doesn't realize that the deficit almost has to drop from it's astronomical high? What is more pathetic: someone who claims Obama is the Messiah of economics because the deficit is dropping or the moronic idiot who believes it? Naturally people like Ricketzz play to their audience.

The deficit is dropping! Well, whoop dee friggin dooo.........

Next he'll say the debt is dropping as a share of GDP. I swear I actually heard Austin Goldsbee say this last night!

Dumbounded: Posted: March 6, 2013 12:24 p.m.

How to sell the American public that Obama is the all knowing god of everything by his butt kissing buddy, Ricketzz:

2 years ago I made 50k and spent 90k.
1 year ago I made 50k and spent 88k.

The deficit is dropping! I'm such an economics master and you should all bow to my brilliance.

Now for my next trick:

2 years ago I made 50k and I spent 90k
1 year ago I made 50k and I spent 88k, thus as a percenatage of GDP, (my income), the debt has actually decreased!

Thunderous applause from the millions of Americans who now understand the debt and deficit brought to you by Ricketzz the Mighty! We bow to your brilliance and we take everything back that we said about Obama. It is clear that he and you are way ahead of our time and the simplistic thinking that we used to have.

The debt is dropping!

The deficit is dropping!

Sleep well tonight kiddies, everything is juuuuuuuuuuust fine.........

Indy: Posted: March 6, 2013 8:21 p.m.

Larry,

The jobs being targeted by the GOP are not necessarily in the US.

As we’ve see with ‘free trade’ globalization, investment is leaving the US for nations with the lowest wages to take advantage of the ‘wage differential’.

You can see the result of this as the stock market has fully recovered yet the unemployment remains high in the US.

And sadly, that’s the way it’s going to be here on out . . . unless American workers will work for less to account for their foreign counterparts.

I don’t even believe that Obama understands this since he keeps signing ‘free trade agreements’ that expose US workers to billions of people in the developing world, ready, willing and able to work for $1/hr (see China).

And Obama’s promise to bring middle class wages back is simply not going to happen.

This is probably the reason the GOP keeps quiet on ‘job bills’ knowing that the fewer taxes those at the top pay, the more they can invest off shore.

In any event, the US is now dominated by ‘service sector’ jobs that overall pay less than manufacturing jobs thus Americans have going to have to get used to ‘less government’ services be they ‘safety nets’, quality public education, longer lines in various government services as well as seeing reductions in social security and Medicare.

The GOP is telling people that indeed we’re ‘over spending’ they just can’t articulate the consequences since they aren’t pleasant.

Further, you simply can’t expect these programs to stay funded if the middle class wages stay stagnated and higher income earners can continue to concentrate their wealth using lobbyist funding to own politicians.

We’ve seen evidence of this in CA where between 1996-2007, the top 1% of income earners gained 50% while the bottom 50% lost 20% (CA Franchise Tax Board).

Anyway, many in the GOP still believe that ‘we’ll grow ourselves to prosperity’ and thus get the taxes ‘back up’ but that’s been tried for decades and ignores the resource constraints and basic economic scarcity that is the foundation of economics.

But hey, it’s fits well to folklore and for most Americans, that’s really all they know.

Pepper in the patriotism recitals and for the GOP, you’re good to go.

Most Americans are unaware of what awaits them and politicians from either party won’t level with us since they want votes and you don’t get them with ‘reality’ disclosure.

For a good read on this, try Lester Thurow’s book: The Future of Capitalism. This was written in 1996 but it appears much of his discussion is unfolding as I write this.

I wish it was different.

And until we can discuss what ‘sustainable growth’ means, we’ll continue to see what you see today . . . since we won’t be able to discuss the factors that might offer a different path.

Debt is abstract. Global Warming is real. Which is more dangerous going forward?

technologist: Posted: March 11, 2013 1:39 a.m.

Q: "Debt is abstract. Global Warming is real. Which is more dangerous going forward?"
A: Debt. Because it's real, not abstract and only wealthy nations have the means to address environmental concerns.

OldReliable: Posted: March 12, 2013 11:47 a.m.

Hey Larry Anderson, it's now March 12th and the only negative that's happened is that Obama foolishly cancelled W/H tours for school children even while his well paid staff continue collecting their fat pay checks.

How about a revised LTE admitting you were wrong? Hello.
