What? While I agree with you in spirit (and perhaps expanding your idea a bit) our country, and especially this city, is so capitalistic they'll charge you for a cup and extra for the water. Sure it's an exaggeration but seriously? You think your age will get you a 'free pass,' literally?

Boy, where to start on this letter....!!! Firstly, "tolls are great for the young people?" What on earth are you talking about? Here's a better idea. How about they stop charging people to use something that we all paid for with our taxes? Stop the double dipping already. And that's great for all ages.

I've written so many letters to the editor on a wide variety of political, fiscal, and cultural issues that never see the light of day. I finally gave up trying. And then I see stuff like this get published and I go .... huuuhhhh???

Um, no! This letter is stupid on both fronts, that young people can or should, pay tolls, and that seniors should be exempt, just because?

And so much from balanced reporting from the Signal which failed to point out the increase was mandated by law.

From your article: "The state Board of Equalization voted three to two on Thursday to increase the excise tax". They had the option to NOT increase the tax, the fact that they were able to vote on it means it was not mandated.

And I don't know any republican that thinks Arnold was a good governor.

They should make all of the roads out of CA into toll roads so they can squeeze a few last dollars out of those leaving this welfare state.

Are you kidding me? California is so anti-capitaliistic. That's why so many businesses and at home workers are fleeing the State. Too many of our elected officials are in la-la land and don't have a clue how to pass a budget and stick to it. We have so many people in California relying on a handout that when voting time comes around they vote yes for any and every increase. I call it extortion of the hardworking taxpayers, they call it a pay increase.

I think toll roads should be free for white males between 45 and 55. They are great for everyone else but what about me? I think everyone in society should kiss my butt just because I'm so old or gay or you or in between or black or disabled or Mexican or muslim or a gun owner or someone who is confused about what sex I am or someone who thinks everyone else should pay for my birth control or illegal or the son of a motherless goat or because my hair is black or because I pick my nose or because I have brown trimming on my house or because I can't watch the Lakers this year because they stink so bad or because my big toe on my left foot hurts sometimes or because I like Stoli instead of Kettle or because I'M SO JUST SO FREAKIN SPECIAL!!!!!!!

Not sure why seniors need to get a discout on anything, we jsut all end uppayign for it in some way.

And finally one observation about our old people. The old people in the country have more wealth than any other demographic. Old people in this country are freakin rich, just look at the data. Of course there are poor old people but in terms of where this nations wealth is concentrated, look no futher than those that demand a decrease in prices simply because they're old!

I think that any toll road that heads directly out-of-state should be free to any and all illegals.

Toll Roads pay for themselves and then pay a premium to the financier. After a certain percentage of profit the State should take 100% ownership. This is how you get roads without higher taxes.
