Letters: What would Lincoln think?

The recent movie “Lincoln” was highly acclaimed in this year’s Oscar-considerations.

Part of its popularity was due to this being the 150th Anniversary of Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, in 1863, declaring slaves in all American states, including those in rebellion against the Union, to be valuable human beings of equal worth with all other citizens, and thus “forever free.”

The 13th Amendment, in 1865, enshrined the sanctity, moral value and equality of human life.

Yet, 150 years later, some argue for the right to reject the moral value and equality of selected human life.

Abortion unjustly kills a human being, because it is unwanted, despised, or regretted.

While most would not argue for killing a toddler, some advocate taking the life of a human embryo or fetus, gestating in a womb.

What would Lincoln think?

What does God think?

I'll tell you what me thinks, it's really none of your business what I or any other woman, chooses to do with her body, or what decisions are between a woman and her doctor.

While I sympathize with the LTE's point, the fact remains that nearly as many children are dying every day from diseases caused by something so preventable as dirty water. Four times as many children die each day from starvation as abortion. While I oppose abortion I must also ask, what would Lincoln think of the richest and most powerful nation in the history of the world spending over $1.2-trillion on our most recent war with comparatively little on providing clean water and food around the world.

What would God think?

Manq: Posted: February 27, 2013 11:40 a.m.

What TRS said.

LADIMAS: Posted: February 27, 2013 12:27 p.m.

I think that Lincoln would think he would not be proud to be a Republican
at this time !!!

therightstuff: Posted: February 27, 2013 1:39 p.m.

Manq, I have to credit Indy for bringing those observations to light in a different conversation. That really puts it into perspective.

And thank you Ladimas for reminding us once again how much you hate Republicans. It adds a lot to the debate.

Manq: Posted: February 27, 2013 2:17 p.m.

What TRS said, again.

LADIMAS: Posted: February 27, 2013 2:27 p.m.

I don't hate Republicans !! Some of my best friends are Republicans!!!!!

Colin Powell, Teddy Roosevelt, Ike Eisenhower, Chris Christie,
just to mention a few Republicans that I like !!!

Bdeezine: Posted: February 27, 2013 2:51 p.m.

TRS: Your first comment is right on the money, thanks.

therightstuff: Posted: February 27, 2013 3:32 p.m.

Ladimas...humor me. Why do you like Chris Christie? He's pro-choice, against gay marriage, and opposes all of Obama's fiscal policies.

therightstuff: Posted: February 27, 2013 3:38 p.m.

Thank you BD. I understand that an issue such as abortion is highly emotional for both sides but who would be opposed to clean water??? Wouldn't it be amazing to hear any president stand up and say, "I declare war on malaria!" We have the money, the knowledge, and the capacity to wipe it out in our lifetime. This is one issue that EVERBODY could get behind - Dem, Rep, Ind, pro-choice, pro-life, black, brown, gay, straight, and everything in between!

therightstuff: Posted: February 27, 2013 3:46 p.m.

oops...check that, Ladimas. Christie is pro-life. So why do you like him when he is opposed to nearly all of your politics?

LADIMAS: Posted: February 27, 2013 9:07 p.m.

Chris Christie, being a Republican is not the point.
I like the man for his integrity and convictions !!!

therightstuff: Posted: February 27, 2013 11:40 p.m.

hmmmmm....Christie's convictions are pro-life, anti-gay marriage, and a staunch opponent of nearly everything Obama stands for. You like him???

LADIMAS: Posted: February 28, 2013 12:24 a.m.

I can't deal with this Chris Christie matter any more !!
After three senseless post by you TRS about why do I like Christie
and why I shouldn't like him, I'm going to take him off my list of likeable Republicans, "which are very far and few between"

TRS your silly and senseless posts are boring me, so I'll sign off
for the night !!

PS: Chris Christie is really a nice guy !!

therightstuff: Posted: February 28, 2013 10:52 a.m.

I was just trying to make some kind of sense from your posts, Ladimas. You're right. Such an exercise is indeed silly and senseless.

CaptGene: Posted: February 28, 2013 11:01 a.m.

Another deep and well thought out post from LADIMAS. Always good for a laugh.

Dumbounded: Posted: February 28, 2013 12:29 p.m.

It appears that it's impossible for Lois to put two coherent thoughts together. I like Christie! Ooops, no I don't! He has convictions? Wow, I thought all politicians have convictions but of course there are the good kinds and bad kinds of convictions.

"I like 4 Republicans in the history of the Republican party"! One has been dead for almost a century. The other has been dead almost half a century. They other voted for Obama twice. And finally the 4th one! Ooops, I change my mind on him so I guess it's only 3.

My favorite Democrats are Martin Van Buren, James Polk, and Franklin Pierce!

And finally, if anyone challenges me on this I'll threaten to sign off for the night. I'll take my banky and pout in my car with the windows rolled up.

LADIMAS: Posted: February 28, 2013 5:26 p.m.

I wonder what Lincoln would think of you posters !!!!
I think that Lincoln would think he would not be proud to be a Republican
at this time !!

Dumbounded: Posted: February 28, 2013 6:13 p.m.

I wonder what Donald Duck would think of you Ladimas?

whataplace: Posted: March 5, 2013 11:47 a.m.

Dumbounded: in your car with the windows rolled up? Is this like Obama when teaching his buddies how to create "total absorption" when smoking pot?
Hmmm.
