Left and Right: the difference

A key difference between Left and Right is that when the Right transgresses the freedom of others, it violates its own tenets.

When the Left does so, it fulfills them.

When you think there is only a right or left, you let the media win.

ricketzz: Posted: February 26, 2013 8:50 a.m.

The Eagle needs both wings to fly. I am a radical and militant centrist.

lars: Posted: February 26, 2013 9:30 a.m.

Left and Right: the similarity:

The Left steals money from the middle class and gives it to the poor.
The Right steals money from the middle class and gives it to the rich.

BBennetts: Posted: February 26, 2013 10:33 a.m.

Rob, please. Get on line and find a critical thinking class or something before you send another poorly written and pointless letter into the signal. This is just rhetoric. Your goal should be to persuade everyone that your point is correct. This doesn't even have a point. You are the republican Lois.

chico: Posted: February 26, 2013 10:45 a.m.

I think the point of this piece is 'others' and how you treat them, what you think of them, and what is 'best for them'.

And another thing, the right doesn't want the credit for your success whereas the left does.

The left knows what is best for you and they want the credit for knowing.

Lately, the left even wants credit for the weather.

OldReliable: Posted: February 26, 2013 10:49 a.m.

Hey Rob... excellent point! And you know you've made it when lefties cry foul. Ha!

therightstuff: Posted: February 26, 2013 10:59 a.m.

If the right disagrees with you, it's because they think you're wrong.
If the left disagrees with you, it's because they think you're evil.

4eyedsue: Posted: February 26, 2013 11:47 a.m.

Mr.Kerchner- wow. Once again, I'm not quite sure what you're talking about... maybe I need another cup of coffee.

But- taking a stab here- and because I really wanted to share this information- and wasn't quite sure which thread to go with...

75 prominent Republicans have signed a brief to be submitted this week to the Supreme Court in support of same-sex marriage. That's 75 prominent Republicans who recognize that their party- the party of Abraham Lincoln- needs to stand up for " "no State É shall deprive any person of life, liberty or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person É the equal protection of the laws."

I applaud these Republicans for standing by their conscience rather than their party platform. I know that they will encourage more to speak out for what's right.

LADIMAS: Posted: February 26, 2013 11:49 a.m.

The "Right" does violate freedom of others !!
They are the cornerstone of disrespect and disregard of others !!

therightstuff: Posted: February 26, 2013 12:21 p.m.

"""That's 75 prominent Republicans who recognize that their party- the party of Abraham Lincoln- needs to stand up..."""

Good grief...to invoke the name of Abraham Lincoln to define people by how they prefer sex? Yes, Sue, you need another cup of coffee.

therightstuff: Posted: February 26, 2013 1:21 p.m.

4ES, I read the list of what the New York Times defined as "prominent Republicans"

David A. Stockman, Ronald Reagan's first Budget Director from 33 years ago?

Meg Whitman who supported Proposition 8 when she ran for governor and got trounced by Jerry Brown?

Jon M. Huntsman who opposed gay marriage just a few months ago but now he's on board?

My friend, I realize I'm likely fighting a losing battle against the wave of pop culture for the biblical definition of marriage between one man and one woman. The Supreme Court upheld a woman's right to choose and the unintended consequences were over 50,000,000 abortions and counting. They will likely support gay marriage based entirely on the demands of pop culture and sadly, there will also be unintended consequences.

We have to ask ourselves if we are better as a society when we deprive life for an unborn child based on someone else's choice and when we define civil rights based on sexual preference.

BBennetts: Posted: February 26, 2013 2:03 p.m.

"unintended consequences."

Please do tell us the horrors that will come from allowing gay marriage.

timothymyers02: Posted: February 26, 2013 2:35 p.m.

BBennetts:

Don't worry about TRS. One knows they have won the battle when the "anti" crowd sounds like the ravings of a lunatic on the street corner.

timothymyers02: Posted: February 26, 2013 2:40 p.m.

TRS:

I am very happy when I see your posts because you have lived to see another sunrise. It's a miracle, because from your writings you have to be at least about 96?

chefgirl358: Posted: February 26, 2013 3:07 p.m.

BBennetts...

Your comment about him being the "republican lois" was hilarious! (Scary enough, also very true). Love it!

OldReliable: Posted: February 26, 2013 3:27 p.m.

Hey Timmy... the "anti" crowd is "anti" marriage between a man and a woman and "anti" life of unborn babies. So much for your "anti". Now, are you going to disparage my opinion by calling me old?

timothymyers02: Posted: February 26, 2013 3:53 p.m.

OldReliable:

You and TRS enjoy dinner together at the assisted living facility. I hear it is Tapioca night!

CaptGene: Posted: February 26, 2013 4:06 p.m.

Tim's attempt at trying to seem hip is hysterical.

4eyedsue: Posted: February 26, 2013 4:18 p.m.

rightstuff, yes, my friend. It appears it will be a loosing battle for you. We've got Ted Olson and David Boies (one represented Al Gore, one represented Bush in the Bush vs. Gore case following the 2000 election), The Obama Administration, and this ever-growing list of Republicans/ Conservatives (up to over 80 now) who are all filing against prop8 and DOMA. In favor we have: LDS, National Association of Evangelicals, the Southern Baptist Convention, and Westboro Baptist Church to name a few.

This isn't about "the biblical definition of marriage". We aren't all Christians. And we don't all read our Bible like you. This is about the Constitution.

It will be OK, rightstuff. Same-sex marriage has been legal in Massachusetts for almost a decade. It's OK.

Bdeezine: Posted: February 26, 2013 4:25 p.m.

Your daily affirmation from Rob Kerchner. ZZZZZZZZZ.............

invisiblesalmon: Posted: February 26, 2013 6:14 p.m.

"...the "anti" crowd is "anti" marriage between a man and a woman"

No one wants to stop men and women from marrying. Stop pretending you're some sort of victim because other people want the same rights as you.

Indy: Posted: February 26, 2013 9:07 p.m.

Therightstuff wrote: The Supreme Court upheld a woman's right to choose and the unintended consequences were over 50,000,000 abortions and counting.

Indy: Yes, I’ve seen studies presented where far too many women are using abortions as ‘birth control’ and that’s insanity.

For me several things come to mind.

First, the ‘macho’ nature of manhood often takes precedence of women who want them to wear condoms and they don’t.

Likewise, the issue of ‘sex education’ is continued to be argued that it creates more sex among young people but I don’ believe the studies support that conclusion.

And today, some religions flat out deny their followers the right to use birth control that would prevent and eliminate abortions.

As I noted, the Catholic Church in the Philippines per a recent LA Times article noted that Priest were threatening excommunication of poor women who go to their churches for using birth control.

In any event, no one I know ‘wants’ abortions and indeed far too many of them occur.

But methods exist to limit or make them moot . . .

In any event, over a similar time line, as many as 300 million people on this planet have died from overpopulation consequences from lack of clean water and sanitation.

We need to get together as a whole and address the abortion issue with solutions that work.

And never use abortion as ‘birth control’.

BBennetts: Posted: February 26, 2013 11:40 p.m.

Again, TRS, please elaborate on the "unintended consequences" of allowing gay marriage. Well, we're waiting.

BBennetts: Posted: February 28, 2013 3:03 a.m.

Tick tock. You have been on the boards today. What should we be concerned about? Do you have nothing on this?

ricketzz: Posted: March 1, 2013 9:55 a.m.

These days, rather than "left" vs "right" we have "left" vs "wrong". One of the dumber things Reagan did was embrace the radical religious right on behalf of the Republicans. That's when the "crazy" started to destroy the Grand Old Party. Conservatives mind their own business; today's Republicans are owned by business. All the religious insanity keeps us from seeing the underlying fascism, as right-wing think tanks direct the righties to rewrite the laws, privatize the commons, stack the courts, and make us all live on 91 day cycles.

Uncertainty is freedom, not a dirty word. Embrace it.
