Against all billboards

First of all, I am absolutely against all of the billboards in the Santa Clarita Valley — including the ones along the Metro right-of-way. I am also against the digital sign boards along the freeways.

I would like to see all of the billboard blight removed forever. They project a trashy-looking city.

I have followed the debates on the billboards since they started, and I have failed or just missed the one important question that I would like to have answered.

And that is: Can the City Council legally just order all of the billboards to be taken down? I would like for someone to write back and inform me and the rest of us who are in the dark on this matter.

If they can, then why haven’t they? If they can legally have them removed then do it and save the city $208,000 by having the matter put on the ballot. If they can order them removed then get some spine and get rid of them.

I am sick of seeing and listening to the protesters. I am sick of all the arguments around the city and the City Council on this matter.

Come on, City Council, take the matter up at the next City Council meeting and vote on it. That is, unless someone is in somebody’s back pocket and you are afraid of some blowback by voting to get rid of them.

I think the majority of the citizens of the city want the billboards gone, so do it.

Editor’s note: City officials offer the following response: The city cannot order all of the billboards to be taken down.
The billboards were approved through Los Angeles County before cityhood in 1987, and the owners have leases.
By law, the city would have to buy out each of the leases to eliminate the billboards, and the cost is prohibitive.

This is not about billboards.

This is all about $$$$$$$$$$.

Allvision, the company that will me making almost a half a billion dollars from the 50 year digital billboard deal, has bought off our city council: kellar, weste, mclean, and Acosta to get their $$$$$$$$$.

This has nothing to do with removing the old billboards, the real purpose for doing that is so they can get big bucks for putting in the digitial monstrosities.

Well the city has alrady spent enough money on landscaping the railroad line with trees in an attempt to block the billboards. SOme of them you can't even see now so I wonder why businesses pay for advertising.
