AN FRANCISCO (AP) — One person is dead and a second person is in custody after an officer-involved shooting in Hayward early Sunday.

The shooting — the third fatal shooting in the San Francisco Bay area involving police and suspects over the weekend — came after a Hayward police officer pulled over a car around 3:30 a.m.

Hayward police spokesman Sgt. Eric Krimm told KTVU-TV the officer opened fire after the driver tried to run the officer down.

The station says after the car crashed a few blocks away the driver jumped out and was arrested by police. The station says the passenger of the car was found dead in the car.

Sunday's incident follows a fatal officer-involved shooting in San Jose Saturday afternoon and a fatal shooting involving Daly City police Saturday morning.
