AZUSA (AP) — A 19-year-old El Monte man was killed on the 210 Freeway in Azusa early Saturday when his car was hit head-on by a wrong-way driver who later was booked on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officer Monica Posada said the collision occurred around 3 a.m. Saturday, minutes after authorities received a call about a wrong-way driver in the westbound lanes of the 210 in Azusa.

Justin Romo, 19, of El Monte was killed when his Nissan sedan was struck head-on by a Honda Accord. Romo's 16-year-old girlfriend was hospitalized with moderate injuries, Posada said.

The driver of the Honda, 24-year-old Tyler White Thompson, ran from the wreck but was later arrested at his home in Duarte. Posada said he was treated for minor injuries and booked for investigation of DUI and hit-and-run.
