PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia police have identified the 3-year-old girl killed by a falling security grate at an Italian ice shop.

Police say Wynter Larkin was visiting the store in north Philadelphia with her mother, who was attending a fundraiser Saturday for a sorority and fraternity. That's when witnesses say the security grate fell from the front of the store onto the girl at about 4:30 p.m.

Police Inspector Christine Coulter says the city's Departments of Licenses and Inspections are checking all other buildings on the block, in particular, their security grates. But at this point, Coulter says the incident appears to be "a horrible tragedy."

Rita's Italian Ice isn't commenting on the incident, beyond offering condolences.
