LOS ANGELES (AP)  — Los Angeles city authorities have seized more than 1,000 pounds of fireworks in the run up to next week’s Fourth of July holiday and have arrested several people, officials said.

A crackdown on the illegal sale and possession of fireworks took place over the course of three inspections carried out by multiple city agencies, City Attorney Mike Feuer said.

Meanwhile, sheriff’s officials in Valencia said they so far haven’t made any noteworthy seizures of illegal fireworks in the Santa Clarita Valley.

"Not yet," a watch commander at the sheriff's Santa Clarita Station said Saturday.

All fireworks are illegal in Los Angeles, but officials say their use accounts for an influx of hospital visits annually around Independence Day.

Authorities in the City of Los Angeles say one suspect allegedly had more than 580 pounds of fireworks in his Los Angeles store. He and several others face charges for possession and sale of fireworks.

The intentions of law enforcement to stop the stupidity of illegal fireworks are always well intended....my neighborhood still sounds what I imagine a war zone would be like every 4th and the days leading up to it....

Stupidity cant be regulated
