LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities are searching for a person who reported that a young woman was threatening to shoot up Los Angeles Valley College — a claim that turned out not to be real.

Sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker said about 700 people were evacuated Thursday after deputies assigned to the San Fernando Valley campus received a phone call from someone who reported overhearing the threat.

For three hours, deputies detained a 19-year-old woman who denied making the threat. She was released after questioning and a search of her Panorama City residence.

Daytime classes were canceled as deputies searched the campus. Nothing suspicious was found.

Investigators continue to look for the person who made the phone call.

The college of about 20,000 students is 15 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
