Hart boys tennis was one set away from a perfect start to the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoffs, beating the visiting Buena Park High team in the wild-card round on Tuesday.

The Indians, the third-place finisher in the Foothill League, defeated Buena Park 17-1 at Hart High behind strong play from both the singles and doubles lineups.

The Coyotes were the at-large team for the Freeway League.

Elliot Miller only dropped one game as he swept his sets 6-1, 6-0, 6-0. Stephen Dock also swept his sets, going 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.

But it was the doubles lineup that did the most work, sweeping all their sets.

The No. 1 team of Luke Distad and Michael Lange were perfect on the day, winning their sets 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.

Zack Killian and Sam Delgado, the No. 2 team, nearly matched Distad and Lange, sweeping their sets by scores of 6-2, 6-0, 6-0.

In all, the Hart doubles lineup only dropped seven games on the day.

“It was a very good start,” said Hart head coach Chris Mansfield. “The boys played very well. Probably one of the best matches we’ve played all year.”

With the win, Hart will travel to Windward High to face the top team of the Delphic League at 2 p.m. today.

Golden Valley 11, Pacifica 7

The Foothill League’s at-large team Golden Valley traveled to Pacifica, the No. 3 team in the Pacific View League, and defeated the Tritons 11-7.

Brandon Yu turned in another strong performance for the Grizzlies, sweeping his sets by scores of 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. He was the only Grizzly to sweep.

No. 3 singles player Nathan Ho won two sets, going 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 on the day.

Golden Valley will travel to face Polytechnic School of Pasadena, the winner of the Prep League, today at 3 p.m.
