No matter how the Foothill League shakes out in baseball, the Valencia Vikings may very well enter the postseason as the hottest team.

Another strong offensive performance pushed the Vikings to a 9-2 win over the reeling Canyon Cowboys on Friday at Canyon High School.

Valencia completes the season sweep on Canyon.

That leaves Valencia (15-9 overall, 9-4 Foothill League) one game out of first place in league and tied for second with Saugus.

The good news for Valencia is it faces last-place Golden Valley next week for its final two league games.

“We’re definitely putting ourselves in great position and we need to take care of business next week to give ourselves a shot,” said Valencia head coach Mike Killinger.

Valencia’s Keston Hiura continued his white hot stretch by leading off Friday’s game with a home run to straight-away center field.

Hiura, who finished the game 3-for-3, has now hit 12 homers on the season and five in the last three games.

His teammate Anthony Lepre added a two-run homer of his own in the game and Devin Davis hit a two-run double in the third inning before eventually scoring off a pair of errors on the same play.

Valencia led 6-0 before Canyon (8-15-1, 3-10) could get on the board against Valencia pitcher Dylan Thomas.

Cole Mears and Joey Reagan both drove in runs in the fifth inning for the Cowboys, but it was a mostly clean game for Thomas outside of that.

Thomas pitched all seven innings and allowed seven hits.

Canyon’s Nick Tarolli finished the game 2-for-3 with a double.
