Only one out of four Foothill League volleyball playoff teams will play a home match in the first round.

The CIF-Southern Section released its 2014 boys volleyball playoff brackets on Friday, and the Foothill champion Valencia Vikings (15-13) get to be the league’s only first-round host on Tuesday as they welcome Thousand Oaks (21-11) to town to open the Southern Section Division I playoffs.

The other three local teams to make the playoffs — West Ranch, Saugus and Canyon — are all traveling on Tuesday.

League second-place West Ranch (23-8) faces St. John Bosco (25-8), third-place Saugus (13-3) plays at San Juan Hills (19-9), and fourth-place Canyon (15-9) travels to face Santa Margarita (14-6).

“We knew there was roughly a 20 percent chance that we wouldn’t be playing at home, so we knew that there was that possibility,” said West Ranch head coach Nate Sparks of playing on the road.

Canyon made it to the playoffs via an at-large bid. This is the team’s first playoff berth since 2009.

Though Canyon had a strong overall record, it likely needed to win its league finale on Tuesday over Hart to secure the at-large spot.

“We’re excited about it,” said Canyon head coach Jeff Cody. “I think we were more nervous going into the Hart game than we are now.”

Though no Foothill team is facing a top seed first round, all four teams are set up for potential matchups against top-four seeded teams in the second round.

All first-round matches are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. unless a different time is agreed upon.
