While showing off her scrapes and bruises collected during the soccer game she just played, Hart senior Destinney Duron summed it up nicely.

“We’ve really got to put everything into it,” she said.

Duron scored once and helped set up a later goal by Laura Flores in the Hart Indians’ 2-1 win over the Chaparral Pumas of Temecula in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoffs on Wednesday.

Hart (16-5-4) now moves on to its first quarterfinal since 2008. That game will be played on the road on Friday against either No. 1 seed Sunny Hills or South Hills.

A big reason why was because of the Indians’ non-stop intensity and physical brand of play throughout Wednesday’s game.

“How much those girls fight and how much they care for each other in battle, it’s unbelievable,” said Hart head coach Guilherme Mitrovitch, whose team hasn’t lost since Jan. 2.

And as Hart moves deeper into the playoffs, it continues to elevate its level of play.

Duron scored her goal on a well-timed pass from Sarah Lindborg in the 24th minute to put the Indians ahead 1-0 against the Southwestern League champion Pumas (15-4-2).

Chaparral fought back and fired six of its eight total shots at Hart goalkeeper Nicole Davis in the second half.

“Their forwards were very good, very physical, always moving around,” said Hart sophomore Brooke MacArthur, who helped lead an impressive defensive effort.

The only shot that got through from Chaparral was a header from Paige Posvar after a shot that bounced out of Davis’ hands.

That tied the score with 37 minutes to play.

It only took five minutes for the Indians to reclaim the lead.

Duron fought off a defender in the right corner and sent a cross back toward the middle, where Flores was able to eventually put the ball away after a rebound.

Hart led at the 32-minute mark and the defense stood tall for the rest of the way.

“We’re in this for everyone. Everyone wants it,” MacArthur said. “We have all these seniors who want it. This is our year.”
