All it took was one goal to calm all the playoff nerves.

And then the Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team was off to the races.

Lauren Gallagher’s hat trick helped SCCS roll to a 7-0 win over the Dunn High Earwigs of Los Olivos on Friday at

Central Park in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section VII playoffs.

“The girls came out and really played their ‘A’ game,” said SCCS head coach Matt Gale. “They really brought it tonight.”

The win pushed the Cardinals (16-0-4) to their 14th shutout in a row and 17th overall for the season.

Gallagher’s trio of goals puts her at 43 for the year.

Maya Rauch added two goals and both Tiffany Shroyer and Susannah Gwinn scored a goal apiece for SCCS.

As the Cardinals continued to build their lead, the team’s senior-laden defensive backline held its ground as usual.

The defense was led by Elissa Phillipps, Shawna Tice, Makenna Gale and Desirae Dodson.

“It’s been a real perfect mix this season,” Gale said of the team.

In the second round on Wednesday, SCCS will play the winner of Friday’s Vistamar vs. St. Paul matchup.

If its Vistamar (12-0-0), it will be a matchup of two undefeated teams.
