The Valencia girls basketball team took a beating on Friday against Canyon and took some late hits from Hart on Tuesday, as the game got physical late.

But the Vikings proved resilient and are now in position to win a Foothill League title.

It was never in doubt on Tuesday, as the Vikings beat the Indians 64-24 at Hart High School.

Now they have to beat a pesky West Ranch team on Thursday in the Foothill League finale to at worst clinch a share of the Foothill championship.

It was clear that the Vikings (18-8 overall, 8-1 Foothill League) quickly recovered from a 46-43 setback to Canyon that pulled the teams into a tie for the league lead.

The Vikings didn’t allow Hart to score until the 2:45 mark of the first quarter.

By then, Valencia had a 13-2 lead.

“Canyon took it to us a little. We wanted to come out in this game aggressive,” said Valencia head coach Jerry Mike.

Valencia never let up.

The Vikings led 35-12 going into halftime and held the Indians (13-12, 5-4) scoreless in the third quarter up to the 2:38 mark.

By then, it was 48-14 Valencia.

The Vikings refused to let Hart’s guards penetrate inside and Valencia post players Paige Nealy and Sandra Ikeora closed in on them quickly when they tried.

That left Hart with less opportunities to score.

Hart’s Breze Kimble scored 18 points.

Nealy scored 18 points and Ikeora added 17.

“It contributed to the game today and will contribute to Thursday,” Nealy said of how Friday’s loss affected her team.

Canyon 64, Saugus 31

Canyon stayed in first place with a 64-31 win over Saugus on Tuesday at Saugus High.

Monica Friedl scored 19 points and teammates Kali Vittallo and Delaney McCann each added 14 points in Canyon’s win.

Dana Bowers also added six points for Canyon (24-4, 8-1).

For Saugus (9-16, 0-9), Justice Bennett scored 18 points and Mija Williams added nine.

Golden Valley 71, West Ranch 61

Golden Valley beat West Ranch 71-61 on Tuesday at West Ranch High.

Caitlyn Zindroski led the Grizzlies (13-11, 2-7) with 26 points.

Mariah Madison added 17 and LaDaesha Merriweather scored 16.

Whitney Branham led West Ranch (13-12, 4-5) with 35.
