Hart's Andrew Nielsen (20) scores against Golden Valley defender Michael Richardson (4) in the first half at Golden Valley on Friday.

On Friday, Hart boys soccer played like a team that wanted to make sure no one could catch up in the Foothill League.

Six different Hart Indians scored in the team’s 6-1 rout over a short-handed Golden Valley Grizzlies team at Golden Valley High.

The win puts Hart (12-4-3 overall, 6-1-1 Foothill League) on the brink of its first league crown since 2008.

Hart can clinch it outright with a win or tie on Tuesday against Valencia.

“Today, we knew we had to come out strong and finish our chances,” said Hart midfielder Brayon Rodriguez, who was one of the team’s goal scorers in the game.

The Indians dominated possession of the ball and constantly sent crosses and passes into the 18-yard box to keep pressure on the Grizzlies (8-10-4, 2-4-2).

Golden Valley struggled to overcome the absence of several key starters, including midfielders Billy Torres and Caesar Romo as well as forwards Levon Ekmekchyan and Ricardo Malaquias.

“There were a lot of guys our of position besides the guys that were missing,” said Golden Valley head coach Juan Paolo.

Either way, Hart took advantage offensively and limited Golden Valley’s attack on the other end.

“We just had to collapse and work together as one defensive unit,” said Hart defender Riley Waldeck.

Hart led 3-0 at halftime off goals from David White, Rodriguez and Andrew Nielsen.

Derek Waldeck’a pass led to the goal by Rodriguez, who also assisted Nielsen’s goal with a precise through ball in front of goal.

Though Golden Valley amped up its attack in the second half and produced four corner kicks and five shots, the Indians were the better finishers. They scored on all three shots taken in the second half.

Jeysen Rodriguez scored on a breakaway, Wess Loveland squeezed a goal in from the far left side and Zaid Khoury punched the ball in on a header to round out the scoring for Hart.

“We came out mentally prepared to play our game,” said Hart defender Nicholas Tamashiro.

Golden Valley’s goal was tapped in by Cristian Gonzalez off a rebound late in the game.

Notes: In other action Friday, West Ranch beat Saugus 3-1. Brendan Moskal scored a goal and added two assists for West Ranch. Eddie Montes and Henry Emerson also scored for West Ranch, which is now 6-8-3 overall, 3-3-2 in Foothill League play. Saugus is 9-10-2, 2-4-2. Valencia beat Canyon 1-0. Valencia is now 11-3-4 overall, 4-2-2 in league play and in second place in league. Canyon is 6-8-6, 1-4-3.
