Ramona Days

History and historical fiction will both come to life at Rancho Camulos Museum National Historic Landmark in Piru on Sunday, Oct. 4, as the famous rancho hosts Ramona Days. While the location offers a glimpse into history on any day, on this particular day the fictional story of Ramona, from the 1884 novel of the same name, will be reenacted. (Many believe that Rancho Camulos served as the inspiration for the rancho depicted in the novel.)

Music in the SCV

Fans of local live music (and/or karaoke and/or good beer) all mourned the closing of the Londoner pub in Canyon Country recently. And it came at a really bad time - just as the SCV's summer outdoor concerts concluded. TV Preview: 2009, the Year of the Sitcom

It's Comedy Tonight! 'They' said sitcoms were dead. Yet, like a phoenix rising from the ashes sitcoms have returned to the primetime schedule of the major networks with a vengeance. Behold! It is the rebirth of comedy on network television. "Two and a Half Men," "The Big Bang Theory," "The New Adventures of Old Christine," "Gary Unmarried" and "How I Met Your Mother" proved the cynics and the naysayers wrong. Comedy, yes, even multi-camera sitcom ...

Try Tesoro today

While most residents of the Santa Clarita Valley probably know about William S. Hart and his ranch, many of them might be surprised to learn there was another Western movie star who had a local ranch - actor Harry Carey. And, as with Hart's property, Carey's ranch has also become a park and museum. Called the Tesoro Adobe Historic Park, it is located on Avenida Rancho Tesoro, and is now shouldered by the Tesoro del ...

Time to go cruisin'?

Newhall residents Frank and Charlotte Kleeman took their first cruise in 1977 and they never stopped. They have now cruised the Caribbean three times, Alaska once, the Mexican Riviera once, the Tahitian Islands once, and several cruises in Europe, Scandinavia and Russia. With all that experience, they prefer smaller cruise ships where they get to know people better. But, regardless of the type of cruise ship, they know any cruise offers several advantages over a ...

Where is your favorite place to stand in the Santa Clarita Valley? Escape asked that question of readers and we received several thoughtful replies. Citrus Classic Hot Air Balloon Festival in Santa Paula

They hang in the air silently, majestically, almost too colorful to belong, and yet at peace. They move slowly with the breeze and those below might be unaware save for the intermittent roar of the propane flames. They are hot air balloons, and they've come to the second annual Citrus Classic Hot Air Balloon Festival, which lifts off in Santa Paula tonight at 5 p.m.

Freeze your head -- ice cream in the SCV

They didn't coin the term "ice cream headache" for nothing. Though you can avoid this pain if you have willpower, there is something so irresistible about ice cream on a hot summer's day that most of us tend to gorge ourselves - and hence, suffer the aforementoned distress. But it's worth it. Summer time is ice cream time, day or night, with the only difference being how fast your treat begins to drip. In the ...

Summer Concerts

"Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies and everyone goes, 'cause everyone knows...." With apologies to Neil Diamond, that line from "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" sums up summer nights in the SCV. Everyone goes 'cause everyone knows there are good times and great music aplenty, with a free concert around nearly every corner. Hallelujah. The big boys of the season are the Concerts in the Park and the Lexus Jazz & Blues ...
