New Miss SCV royalty crowned

The 29th annual Miss SCV Scholarship Program honored its outgoing royal court - Little Miss SCV Audrey Hixon, Miss Teen SCV Kimberly Petot, Miss SCV Hope Morrice, Ms. SCV Amanda Wasvary and Mrs. SCV Kendra Quiros - on Friday as the retiring queens passed on their crowns to their successors.

Amsler, Coulter named M/WOY

Bill Lively crooned the classic standard "It Had to Be You" as 15 Santa Clarita Valley Woman of the Year nominees stood nervously and smiled, clutching their nomination plaques. Suddenly the lyrics changed and Lively sang "Nancy Coulter, it had to be you" as he reached for Coulter to bring her out of the crowd of nominees to the front of the stage in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Valencia.

Big crowd for food, glorious food

Nearly 2,000 supporters of the Santa Clarita Child and Family Center packed Mann Biomedical Park in Valencia on a warm Sunday to eat, drink and be merry. The 21st annual Taste of the Town also attracted nearly 40 food and drink vendors to one of the premiere food and wine events in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Rotarians and Elks hula for moola at fundraiser

Grass skirts, flowered shirts and exotic cocktails gave the flavor of the South Seas at the recent inaugural Rotary Luau Fundraiser held by the Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club. Co-sponsored by the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Santa Clarita, Lodge No. 2379, the event helped benefit the club's biannual donations to 15 nonprofit organizations in the SCV.

Grand style for debutantes

Resplendent in white satin, the Henry Mayo Silver Rose debutantes recently ended their social season in style at the Grand Ball. Attended by 160 guests in the Starview Room at the Universal Sheraton Hotel, the eight high school seniors out-dazzled the spectacular night sky as they bowed, curtsied, and danced with their fathers and escorts.

Hoedown at Tesoro open to public

Tesoro Adobe Historical Park and the Santa Clarita Artists' Association will host a western-style hoedown noon to 4 p.m. May 30. The public can enjoy festivities, music, view artwork, and potluck nibbles from as well as a free tour of the museum. Kellar, Keysor Smith to wed

City Councilman Bob Kellar and longtime companion Kathy Keysor Smith have announced plans to marry. The couple is planning a June wedding. Keysor Smith was born in Burbank, the youngest of five children. She is the daughter of Bud and Bernice Keysor. She is the mother of four children and has seven grandchildren. She is the sister of Jim, Dick and Bob Keysor and Carolyn Hill.

Gunfire echoed through the hills above the I-5 freeway as the inaugural How the West Was Won Trap Shoot to benefit Carousel Therapeutic Riding Ranch was held Friday at Oak Tree Gun Club. The event was a sell out with 12 teams of five participating the in the event with each contestant given a chance to shoot three rounds of 25 clay targets.
