Church volunteers in Nicaragua

A team of volunteers from the Valencia United Methodist Church traveled to Nicaragua the first week of March to offer assistance to poor families. The families live in shacks in and around an area known as la chureca, a large trash dump located in Central Nicaragua near the city of Managua.

Bringing others to God through music

Remembering heroes, honoring diversity

Last night a local Jewish synagogue honored the brave men and women who lost their lives in the Columbia space shuttle accident 10 years ago. The shuttle's crew represented men and women of different nationalities and cultures, but also represented a diverse group of different faiths.

One church, two languages

Local church mission trip expands

A team of 100 volunteers from NorthPark Community Church spent the first few days of 2013 in Mexico serving others who needed it most. Every January, for the past five years, the team traveled to a small town outside of Ensenada to build houses for poor families.

Spiritual Center expands services

Many churches across the Santa Clarita Valley make their homes in rented spaces belonging to businesses, often setting up and taking down adornments within a few hours on Sunday mornings. The Santa Clarita Center for Spiritual Living was one of those churches, until its move in September 2012.

A universal Christmas message

With only a few days left until Christmas, much of the Santa Clarita Valley hurries around finishing last-minute shopping. Last weekend, instead of rushing around malls or checking gifts off Christmas lists, nearly 3,000 people attended the fifth annual Christmas production at the Valencia stake Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on McBean Parkway.
