‘For the Love of Pits’

The whimper from the back of the room caught her ear. Tanya Terzian, leader trainer at Petco in Saugus, had just come back from her lunch break and entered the training area. Inside a dog crate was a note and a black and white male pit bull puppy, just four weeks old. "We can't take care of this dog. We hope you can give it a better life," the note read. Terzian knew the young ...

The SCV family mourns its losses

It's been a difficult week in the Santa Clarita Valley. Among our losses: Heather Warrick: I've met Heather and her mother, Nancy Coulter on many occasions. They were two of the more positive, inspirational people I've ever met. Heather courageously, and publicly, fought her battle against cancer for nearly two decades. Whenever I would feel sorry for myself, or bemoan some small ache or pain I would think of Heather and everything she endured for ...

Now the school has announced that it's putting on a mother-son dance so as not to leave out the boys. I really don't want to attend this. It's just not my thing. Transforming your bedroom

In today's busy, on-the-go world, having a haven to come home to is a must. And for many people, that sanctuary is the bedroom. In fact, a recent study by Leggett & Platt Adjustable Bed Group found that 90 percent of people surveyed want their master suite to be a tranquil retreat. "Today's bedroom is for more than just sleeping," says Emily Henderson, host of "Secrets from a Stylist" and HGTV's Season 5 "Design ...

Trautman is the ‘puppet master’

Actor Allan Trautman, of Saugus, has a cult following. He may not be mobbed on the street, or at his favorite restaurant, but Trautman has performed in numerous big-budget and hit films including "Babe," "Men in Black" (and "Men in Black II"), "Return of the Living Dead (Parts 1 and 2) and "Cats & Dogs." He has appeared on television in such shows as "Joan of Arcadia," "Unhappily Ever After," "Married ... With Children," "Dinosaurs," ...

Sierra Pelona Wine Fest now April 20

I was sad to see the first Sierra Pelona Wine Festival postponed this past weekend. It was the right call due to all the rain we had in the days leading up to Saturday. I just wish they had picked another day, instead of April 20 with conflicts with the Cowboy Festival! I hate having to chose between two things I love, especially when it is Cowboy Festival versus wine!

A home away from home for pets

While the owners are away, the dogs will play. That's the concept behind DogVacay.com, which offers dog owners an alternative to boarding or pet sitting while traveling. "My wife and I have two dogs. We'd always had this problem when we traveled, trying to find a place for them to stay. If we put them in a kennel for a week, it would be north of $1,000 and they'd spend 23 hours in a cage," ...

Have a heart for cardiac care

Have you found yourself singing "Blowin' in the Wind" recently? I don't remember a time in the Santa Clarita Valley where the wind has blown so incessently like it has the past week. I've lived here since 1978 and I think this wind is one for the record books!
