Julie and Monty celebrate a day at 'The Garden'
The tension mounts as we try to weave our way through a crowd thick with people standing shoulder-to-shoulder and moving into the stands with the speed of cold molasses. It must have taken us nearly 20 minutes just to get from the door to the area 40 feet away where we can hear the ring steward call out, "Enter in catalog order, please."

Saugus Cheer to host clinic
The Saugus High School Competition Cheer Team took second place in a USA Regional competition held Jan. 24 in Agoura Hills. The team's score qualified them for Nationals, which will be held in Anaheim at the end of March.
Saugus High School Dance Team wins big
It was only the second competition of the season, but the Saugus High Dance Team came away with 15 trophies for both solo and team dances from the Aliso Niguel Classic held Jan. 24 in Aliso Viejo.
SCV Single Mothers Group celebrates first year of service
The newly founded Santa Clarita Valley Single Mothers Group celebrated its first year with a holiday party held at a private clubhouse in December. The event attracted 50 single mothers and their children.
Rock pioneer Ritchie Valens remembered 50 years later
He was only 17 when his life was snuffed out in a small plane crash 2,500 miles from his family and friends. That in and of itself, is a tragic enough ending for a young life, but this was no ordinary kid.
Six Flags Magic Mountain earns recognition
Despite a harsh economy, Six Flags Magic Mountain and the Boy & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, made the holiday season much merrier for the children in Southern California. Nearly 15,000 toys were collected by Magic Mountain for children that may have otherwise gone without during the holidays.
Quick to the rescue of moms
Her car had broken down and with it, temporarily, her spirit. It was 1994 and Debbie Quick was a 41-year old, recently divorced mom with two sons. When her vintage Mercedes needed expensive repairs, the situation forced Quick to trade down to a Ford Tempo. It also made her think.
