California Statewide Fire Summary

This morning more than 8,300 firefighters are battling a total of a dozen large wildfires across California. The Rim Fire, near Yosemite National Park, continues to be the most active and has grown to the 15th largest fire in California's recorded history. 4,500 homes remain threatened by the blaze and today strong winds out of the South will pose a major challenge as the fire continues to advance to the North, closer to several communities that remain under evacuation advisories.

SCV Sheriff's team saves suicidal man from jumping off cliff

On Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at approximately 10:05am deputies assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station received a call for service regarding a 42-year-old male who was possibly suicidal. A short time later, the man's vehicle was located (parked) at Sierra Highway and Newhall Avenue. Deputies had reason to believe the man was now traveling on foot headed into an off road / rural area to possibly commit suicide.
