Three-year-old girl drowns

A 3-year-old girl drowned about 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the community pool of the Rancho Tesoro clubhouse in the Tesoro del Valle development near Valencia, said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. Supervisor Fire Dispatcher Eddie Pickett encouraged residents to be vigilant in watching their children around water.

Castaic Middle School offers spring musical

Castaic Middle School is presenting "Once Upon a Mattress" as its spring musical today at 7:30 p.m. in its Multi-Purpose Room. City, county host pet vaccination

The city of Santa Clarita, along with the county, is hosting the annual Pet Vaccination Clinic today from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Santa Clarita Park. Low-cost vaccinations, license renewal and micro-chipping services will be available for dogs. Vaccinations include a $6 Rabies vaccine, the $14 six-in-one Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza and Parvovius, and the $11 Bordetella vaccine. Record triple-digit highs possible today in SCV

Near-record triple digit temperatures are possible today in the Santa Clarita Valley. As of Friday evening, the National Weather Service predicted temperatures in the Santa Clarita Valley could reach 103 degrees today, which is 25 degrees above normal. A high of 98 is predicted for Sunday.

A 'tradition' continues

With the sound of cheering parents, friends and alumni coming from the courtyard and balconies, nearly 400 students from the California Institute of the Arts received their degrees Friday evening during the 2008 graduation ceremony. Out of the 392 graduating students from the Valencia art institute, 194 received a Bachelor of Fine Arts, while 198 took home their Master of Fine Arts.

Stuntman Jack Williams, 85, dies of natural causes

Jack Williams didn't choose to go into the stunt business, he was born into it. With a stuntman for a father and a trick horse rider for a mother, Williams was born on April 15, 1921, in Montana and was a longtime Hollywood stuntman, appearing in a host of films including "The Sons of Katie Elder," "Cheyenne Autumn" and "Spartacus."

Residents blame health issues on mold

Heather Reder has a disease that typically only occurs in those twice her age. Three years ago, a CT scan found nodules on the 24-year-old's throat. The doctors performed exploratory surgery and, when complications arose, the tissue buildup in her throat prevented the doctors from intubating. Heather now uses a trachea tube to breathe.

McKeon issues Statement on Civilian Furloughs

WASHINGTON- The Department of Defense today officially informed Congress of its intent to impose furloughs on the Department of Defense's entire civilian workforce as it copes with the automatic spending cuts known as "sequestration."
