Arraignment for stabbing postponed

The arraignment for the man accused of trying to stab a teenager in Newhall this week was moved to later this month, Santa Clarita court officials said. Gildardo Villaruel, 19, of Newhall, will be arraigned on Oct. 22 at the Santa Clarita Courthouse.

California ranked 9th among Bicycle Friendly States

Sacramento – May 1, 2014 – Kicking off National Bike Month, the League of American Bicyclists has released its latest ranking of Bicycle Friendly States. In the seventh annual assessment, California achieved a #9 ranking nationally, an increase of ten ranks from last year and receiving 53.7 points out of 100.

Wilk bill providing transparency to State Water Resources Control board passes committee

SACRAMENTO – Yesterday Assemblyman Scott Wilk's (R- Santa Clarita) bill requiring the State Water Resources Control Board to post on their web site the external peer review studies when a regional board imposes a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) on a community, passed out of the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials committee with a 7-0 vote.

Free HIV screenings offered by SCV Pregnancy Center

The SCV Pregnancy Center (SCVPC) is excited to announce new HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) screenings for local residents. SCVPC is a licensed medical clinic, and the first 100 residents calling for a HIV screening receive the service free.

Crews douse fire along I-5

Fire crews work to knock down a quarter-acre brush fire alongside the south-bound Interstate 5 at McBean Parkway. The No. 3 and 4 southbound lanes were shut down briefly, but reopened at about 8 p.m., a CHP official said.
