1 arrested for DUI at checkpoint

SANTA CLARITA - The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station conducted a DUI/Driver's License checkpoint on August 30, 2013 from 1800 to 0200 hours as part of the city of Santa Clarita's commitment to traffic safety. This checkpoint was one of many that have been or will be conducted throughout the year in Santa Clarita. The location of Friday's checkpoint was on Newhall Ranch Road and Grandview Drive.

Learning where energy comes from

Santa Clarita Elementary School Students hold up cards with pictures and names of food products such as tofu, plants such as oak trees, and man-made objects such as cars, as part of the Solar Science assembly at the school on Friday. The assembly, entitled "Where Does the Energy Come From," explained using cards and students lined up in a circle to show how the Sun's energy moves in an energy chain from plants to animals and finally down to humans and man-made products.

SCV Sheriff's team saves suicidal man from jumping off cliff

On Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at approximately 10:05am deputies assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station received a call for service regarding a 42-year-old male who was possibly suicidal. A short time later, the man's vehicle was located (parked) at Sierra Highway and Newhall Avenue. Deputies had reason to believe the man was now traveling on foot headed into an off road / rural area to possibly commit suicide.
