Beating the heat at McGrath

McGrath Elementary School took a little different approach to try to motivate its students to raise money for the school this year. As a reward for the school's students surpassing their goal and raising $5,600 at a PTA book fair held earlier this month, each class and its teacher received an opportunity to try and pelt school Principal Larry Heath with water balloons.

Sewer rates take a hike

New Santa Clarita Valley residents and businesses will pay hundreds or thousands of dollars more than existing residents for sewer connection fees beginning January, the Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District board decided Wednesday night.

Motorcyclist crashes, busted for speed

A motorcyclist was arrested on suspicion of drug possession after roaring down Newhall Avenue on Tuesday night quick enough to grab a sheriff's deputy's attention and crashing moments later into a parked car, authorities said.
