Local closures start Sunday for I-5 construction project

Santa Clarita - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) plans to close the lanes listed below as part of a $72 million project that is constructing a truck lane on southbound I-5 between Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue and the Antelope Valley Freeway (SR-14). Ramp closures will be staggered. Closures are subject to change. Detours will be signed.

SCV: Henry Mayo’s New NICU Receives Community Service Award

VALENCIA, CA (March 15, 2013)- The Kim and Steven Ullman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit team at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital was honored recently with a Santa Clarita Elks Lodge Community Service Award. The award recognizes outstanding service organizations in our community. The hospital is one of the life-saving organizations that the Lodge honors along with the Sheriff's Department, CHP, Los Angeles County Fire Department and others.

One arrested, 10 cited in DUI checkpoint

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station conducted a DUI/Driver's License checkpoint on March 14, 2013 from 1800 to 0200 hours as part of the city of Santa Clarita's commitment to traffic safety. This checkpoint was one of many that have been or will be conducted throughout the year in Santa Clarita. The location of Thursday's checkpoint was on Newhall Ranch Road @ Grandview Drive.

SFV Missing Person Gavin Smith's car found in Simi Valley, case now being investigated as a homicide

The Mercedes Benz registered to missing person Gavin Smith was recovered at a storage facility in Simi Valley on Thursday, February 21, 2013. This storage facility has been linked to John Creech who is currently in-custody at Men's Central Jail on an unrelated narcotics conviction.
