Door-to-door solicitors not students at COC

College of the Canyons officials have received notice from some local residents that solicitors, representing themselves as COC students, have been going door-to-door in Santa Clarita Valley neighborhoods allegedly selling magazine subscriptions and claiming that sales will help them defray the high cost of college textbooks.

16th annual West Pow Wow

Friends of Hart Park and Museum will host their 16th annual Hart of the West Pow Wow from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The Pow Wow will feature dancers, drummers and numerous displays of arts and crafts at William S. Hart Park at 24151 Newhall Avenue.

Fire information center closes

Today is the last day the local assistance center for fire victims will be open at Veterans Memorial Community Park in Sylmar, located at 13000 Sayre St. The center has served as one-stop information point regarding federal, state and regional disaster relief services.

Gunshots Reported

Members of the SCV Sheriff's Department enter the Tony Alamo Christian Church after gunshots were reported near the compound Thursday afternoon. Officers checked the building but did not find any suspects or injured persons. The surrounding areas were also investigated but turned out inconclusive.
